Intro from Columbus OH

Hello fellow cyclists. I'm Kurt from Columbus, Ohio. Recently got back into riding after years away. I started commuting to work - about 27 miles roundtrip - this spring. I have a 2007 Specialized Sequoia Elite that is all stock with the exception of Ultegra SPD's and a Cateye computer. I also ride a 1996 Giant Yukon that has been converted to a neighborhood cruiser, complete with fenders, slicks and a child seat on back. I had a Sterling road bike back in high school (can't find any information about Sterling, but pic's of mid-80's Ross and Univega road frames look identical). I'm planning to retrieve it from my brother in law's garage so I can ride an older steel bike w/ friction shifting for some variety.

Welcome Kurt. Post some pics of the Sterling once you get it. C&V might have some info on it.

Dave,
I commute from Dublin to OSU - all roads. I began by riding the Olentangy Trail from Worthington Hills, but getting from my house to the trailhead was taking much longer than just riding directly from home. I've done one ride from home to Bexley and then back downtown and up to campus to meet and ride with several people who live in that area. If I'm not taking my time or extending the ride it's about 13.5 miles each way.

Kurt

Bikes: N+1 = Too many.

O-h...

Hey Kurt. What route do you take from Dublin in lieu of the Worthington path? I ride the Olentangy path frequently, starting at Lane where I live, then cutting over to Schrock Rd, over to Alum Creek, south to 670 sometimes (a dismal path), or just bushwack my way back down to High at Nationwide. I commuted each day from Lane/High to The Dispatch downtown where I worked this summer, about 4 miles (in heavy traffic) each way.

Any recommended routes for outside of the city? I ride out in Granville and Licking County, mostly during the year (I'm at Denison).

Hi Nick,
Good to meet a fellow central OH rider. I ride down Frantz Rd to Dublin Rd then cut across Fishinger to Northwest Blvd to Lane Avenue. I haven't spent much time out east, but my brother lives in New Albany and works at Denison so I've been thinking for some time about doing a ride over that way. Isn't there a rail trail that runs from Granville out to the Newark area? I usually prefer the roads to trails, but I'm flexible.

Yep, there's a trail that runs from Johnstown into Granville, then continues into Heath and Newark. There's a whole web of trails from there, too. ODOT has a decent map:
