Newbie in Sydney

Hello from down under!

As I'm getting more into cycling again, I thought I'd pop and, say hello, and perhaps get some advice now and again.

I used to do a lot of cycling when I was younger (and lived in the UK), but kind of stopped for no good reason. Anyway, after getting fed up with the public transport links to where I work, about a year ago I bought a cheapo bike on ebay and started riding again.

What fun! Why did I ever stop!

I'm still riding the same bike I bought - an 80's vintage peugeot (renyolds 501 tubing!), although in the last 12 months I've had to replace quite a lot of bits. Recently I got new wheels for it, so I think all that's left is the frame, brakes and derailers form the original.

My 10k each-way ride has certainly done wonders for my fitness - and riding over the Sydney Harbour Bridge each day with the sun on your back has to beat sitting on a cramped bus!

Anyway, hello to all - looking forward to getting to know you guys.

Hi from another Sydneysider!

Riding certainly beats the traffic in terms of enjoyment. See you out there on the streets sometime.

Hello trombone, post some pics of the Peugeot in the Classic & Vintage forum, why don't you?

There are a lot of people here who ask themselves "Why did I ever stop" and they can't explain it either! But they also feel the same way when they finally realise that riding a bike is a great thing .

Welcome to BF!

heh heh.

After looking at some of the pics of immaculately restored and maintained vintage bikes in that area of the forum, I think I'd be rather embarrassed to put up a pic of my battered ride!

The joy of the C & V forum is that we just love our old bikes so much, we don't care how they look as long as it is obvious that the rider enjoys riding his or her bike .

Bikes: 8 bikes - one for each day of the week!

Welcome to the forums! There's plenty of good blokes from the forums to ride with just a bit north of Sydney, and a few in Sydney, so you're in good company.

Cheers,

Brian

Hey trombone. I think those of us who used to ride, but quit only to begin again later in life have the same feelings as you. Why did we ever quit riding?? Anywho, welcome to BikeForums!

Brad, I can think of 1,832 reasons why my bikes don't get as much use as they should. I think you can figure that one out. Did you happen to see my blog as of last night?

We've hijacked Trombone's thread. I hope he comes back.

Bikes: Trek 930 SHX

I LOVED Sydney when I visited in 2000. I did the bridgeclimb and it was one of the coolest things I've ever done!

I've posted a few pics of the bike in the vintage section, FWIW.
