Hello from Nebraska

My name is James, I live in Nebraska. It's pretty flat here. I commute to work about 3 miles each way, and I go home for lunch, so about 12 miles commuting a day. I use cycling to cross train for my running, and I log about 100-150 miles a week total with commuting and cross training. I run about 20-25 miles a week, but I started getting hurt, so to take some of the stress off of my feet/knees/ankles/hips I took up cycling. I ride a Trek 6000 mtb with narower, slicker tires on it to go faster. I average about 16-17 mph. Let's see.....what else...... I'm 33 years old, married, and have 4 kids. I have a road bike but it is too big for me so I don't ride it much. I'm currently looking for a smaller road bike, because I want to try road biking unstead of just riding a mtb on the road I also have a few beater bikes that rescued from the trash and fixed up. It's kind of a hobby for me.

Hello James, what do you do with your beater bikes when you fix them up? You sound as if you could have a good time visiting with us in the Classic & Vintage forum .

You get in some good mileage there!

Welcome to BF!

I like to ride the old beater bikes around the neighborhood at night after the kids are in bed. It's kind of fun and relaxing. I also ride one to work if it is raining.

Right in the middle, about 20 miles east of Grand Island.

Yes, I can see that it would be relaxing...just like working on them. And they do come in handy during the rain.

No kidding. My grandparents retired to Central City, and I spent a lot of time there as a kid.

I did the Bicycle Ride Across Nebraska last year and had a great time.

I had planed to do the BRAN ride this year but it didn't work out. I would like to do it next year if possible. It sounds like a pretty nice ride but it is a big commitment of time away from the family.
