hi from ohio

hello all, my name is bethany. i have decided that i want to buy a road bike. next week i am headed to a bike shop in akron to get fitted! i am so excited. i have been lurking on your site for days now. for my first bike, i don't want to spend more than $800. anybody have any suggestions? what are everyone's thoughts on the felt fw40?

i am happy to be here and learn more about road bikes!

welcome to Bikeforums. I am not familiar with that particular model but Felt makes a very nice bike.

thanks for the welcome, garysol1. that felt model is a lower-end women's fit. i guess i won't know which bike is best for me until i go get fitted. i have seen a lot of felt bikes on this forum so i checked out their site and like the orange frame! the color, go figure, right? i am not too familiar with which bike would give me the most bang for my buck because i am not sure which components are better than others. any insight is greatly appreciated!

You will find that most all of the bikes in a certain price range will be equipped very similar. At this point in your cycling I would be more concerned with fit than anything else.
I just looked at Felts website and I do not see a Fw40. I see a FW4 that is blue and a FW3 that is orange. Both look really nice with the FW3 a BIG upgrade in components and frame. The FW4 is a 8 speed with Aluminum frame while FW3 is a 10 speed with carbon rear frame. In another words the 3 will ride nicer and have more gears to pick from when going up hills.

Hello Bethany, Gary is right--the fit is the most important thing for you if you have a set budget, because realistically there isn't going to be that much difference at that price range.

Sometimes it comes down to which colour you prefer!

Welcome to BF!

Nice choice, I really like the orange frame on that. Makes it look fast just looking at the picture. The other bonus, if you ever have to meet up with folks for a ride, you'll be easy to spot.
