Very newbie

Hi,
I bought the Townie Commuter bike after renting one for 2 weeks at the local bike store. I have not ridden a bike since my twenties, I am now in my fifties, and have bone on bone in most of my joints. Last week end I biked 16 miles, with no aches. I have to admit my butt was a bit sore, but it went away in a few days. This bike is not for everyone, I see lithe bikers race by me on the skinny and fast bikes. However I am euphoric at what I can now do. I get a bikers "high" when I ride my Townie-that is what the young dudes told me at the bike store when I gushed about what a great ride I had. I love riding the River Walk here in Columbus and enjoying nature. If there are folks like me out there, give the Townie a go.

Bikes: Nishiki Nut! International, Pro, Olympic 12, Sport mixte, and others too numerous to mention.

Hello Paraduck, there are a lot of folks in your same situation! If you visit the 50+ forum, you will find a lot of tips and hints on how to get around that bone on bone pain. It's really not important to go fast--it is important to get out and have fun. I am like you, I like to get out, ride my bike, and see wildlife and nature.

Welcome to BF, and feel free to PM me with any questions !

Hi

Hi easthill, pardon my interrupting, I found you while reading all the emails. I wanted to thank you for replying to my email.
I used to think I was too over the hill and long in the tooth to do anything, reading about everyone getting stronger is just a great lift to my psyche!

Way to go young man (I'm 63). Now get out and ride some more.
