Back on the saddle
Hello
After being off the bike for the better part of 11 years, made the commitment to get out there and take my chain-whipping like a man. Used to be obsessed--racing, training 14-20 hrs/wk but that was ground down by life, wrecks, work, band world, blah blah blah... Crowning blow was t-boning a deer while flying down Peaks of Otter on the BRPwy at 35+mph. That one earned me a helicopter ride and a three day vacation at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Don't worry, the deer was fine--ran of to brag to his friends-"You shoulda seen the eyes on that dude!"
So now I'm 50. The creeps at AARP remind me of that every week with their unsolicited offers to join their pernicious little organization. I'm 40 lbs heavier and kinda miss the endorphins. So I've set some goals and made some new commitments, and decided to meet some new folks here at this forum and get some advice on a few things I may have missed in the last decade. For example--Now Dura Ace comes in TEN SPEED?!? What will they think of next!?
I wish there was a resource like this available 15 years ago! Thanks in advance!

Hello lopassfilter, I have to agree, there are some truly evil people at AARP. Or perhaps they just have the nastiest computers around.
So, what bikes are you looking at? Where are you in East TN?
Welcome to BF, and feel free to PM me with any questions !

I'm in Morristown--halfway between Knoxville and Johnson City. I ride a Merlin with an 8-speed Dura Ace Group, and a Litespeed XT MTB. As a reward for making some goals I've set, I'll be looking for a Carbon frame to hang either the Campy or DA 10-spd group on, so I'll be doing a lot of research on all that, but even more riding!

Welcome to the group! I've done some riding on Skyline Drive and the BRP and it sure is pretty there. I did see a few deer too, but at the speed that I ride, they had plenty of time to escape. Here's hoping to more "deer free" rides!
