Hi, I have just gotten into bicycling, mainly for fitness. I had a cheap department store mountain bike from when I was 10, ridden rarely over the years. I decided getting a road bike would be easier to ride on city pavement, and have since found that the right size is even more important. I bought one at a vintage restoration bike shop, a mid-eighties Nishiki Olympic 12. From this forum I discovered I hit the very sweet spot in this bike's lineage. It's so much easier to ride than my 4 size too small MTB. I now have some exercise incentive 
Also something interesting, on Ebay I just ordered a detachable blinking headlight and taillight package for $1, $3.95 shipping, and a bicycle computer for $1, $3.95 shipping. Not that it would be any loss if they don't but will these extremely cheap things work more than 1 day? lol Also, do bicycle computers work for any wheel size, as I have the old 27 x 1 1/4 road bike wheels?
Edit: Just now saw the 200lbs+ forums and thought I'd post another question here, instead of making a separate post off the bat. I'm 6'4" 230lbs and have read some webpages about bicycling for heavier people. The guy at the bike shop assured me that that's for bigger people than me. Still, thought I'd shoot the Q here before I post a topic and 100 ppl say dude your fine. So, should I be careful/gentle with my bike? or totally no consideration - 230 isn't too heavy at all? It seems perfectly stable going over the wide speed bumps, which are all around the cities small streets, but i do have old aluminum wheels.

In relation to your weight, you should be fine on your bike. Make sure the wheels are in top shape and the spokes adjusted accordingly.

Welcome to Bike Forums. Make sure the wheels on your bike are properly inflated before each ride and you should be fine.
For the bike computer, you should be able to select your wheel size as part of the initial setup. If you don't have the correct wheel size entered your mileage will not be correct. As for the lights, if they shine enough for you to see the road and for others to see you when they are behind you, they should be fine.
