Southern Colorado Retread
Greetings all. What a find the forum is!
I recently bought a new road bicycle- the first after a 20+ year break in road riding. So far, I've found that just about everything (bicycle parts, construction) has changed in the past two decades- including what I am capable of doing on a bike. The bike I purchased is an alum framed racer-type and I am presently in the process of cannibalizing it to build a bike more suitable for my 54 year old non-racer type body. I can't bend like I used to and don't enjoy the nervous steering and harsh ride of my new purchase.
Presently, I just finished repainting a '87 Miata 215 (touring) to which I mated a Centurian fork of the same vintage (Centurian fork has less rake- increases the trail). I seem to have a longing for a Rivendell but the budget for unloved vintage bikes.
A couple more visits from the UPS truck should have it up and rolling in a month or so.
Also- have a early 1980's Shogun touring bike that I am restoring for casual bicycle path duty with my wife.
Thanks!, Paul

Welcome Paul to the road and Bike Forums.

Post some pics when you get the project finished.

Welcome from another Southern CO. rider! LOL, it's funny how we go in and buy a bicycle as we "THINK" that's what we really want to ride and find out, it's not and when your not a RICH rider, that can afford multi-new bikes, you end up "converting" what you bought to suit your new found requirements! We bought Hardtail MTB's, sure we were only going to ride "dirt". Found out that it's not the type of riding we prefer so we've "converted" our MTB's into "Road/Touring" hybrid's so don't feel alone my friend! Hopefully this silly weather will clear up soon so we can hit the road a bit more before March. Although since you live in the "Bannana Belt" of Southern CO., you may just be out "riding" as I'm looking at the snow piling up and the roads being ice'd over here in Colorado Springs, RATS! ENJOY and again Welcome!

BJ you old dog You. This is Paul Beauchaine - From your BMW riding days. Hope you and Jo are well. I remember you saying that you rode mountain bikes way back in the day. Looks like we have both come full circle.

Paul, I hope things are very well with you and yours! Great to hear from you my friend, ya we've ridden bicycles on and off since the early 1980's. We are some of the strange folks that like both motorcycle and bicycle, "they usually don't mix". Sadly haven't had a motorcycle since 2006, financies haven't been well for many years so we got out of motorcycles due to the expense's of maint., tires, parts, etc., don't get me wrong, I'd have another motorcycle in a second, IF I had the means to purchase one (credit level sucks, ect.). Ok, that's enough whinning
Ya we got out of bicycles for a long time, then in 2005 we bought a couple of Fuji Monterey's (Comfort Bikes), then in 2009 we bought Jamis Trail-X hardtail MTB's. Found out that at 50+, bouncing down mountains ain't the fun it used to be!!! :O We've "converted" them to "road/touring" hybrid's and are hoping to get out on the road for some overnight/weekend tours thru 2010 and do a multi-day tour in late summer 2010 or 2011 riding season. Sure hope we can hook up some where on the road one day, it would be great to see you again. Have a most excellent day!
