I started looking into bikes when I decided that I want to start living a car lite life. Haven't made the final purchase yet, but I've gotten so much good information here already that I figured I'd go ahead and start posting.

I live in Chesapeake, VA so the roads are fairly flat but not always the most bike-friendly. I'm not too experienced with road biking yet, so my less-than-a-mile car commute is going to be morphed into a 14 mile route through neighborhoods to avoid a highway overpass. But hey, I need the excise anyway.

If there are others on the forum from the area, I hope to pick your brains about the best way to ride around here!

I'm really looking forward to trying it. Although, I have to say I'm really glad I'm going to have so many good examples posting here so I can work through the inevitable rocky bits at the beginning, like my first trip in the rain.
