hey from NYC

Hey wassup every1? The name is Kurt but every1 calls me Dread (caribbean with dreadlocks) or snoopy (name i got in my fraternity). I'm 24, just graduated with my BFA in Graphic Design. I am usually the eccentric one in the group but also the wisest lol.

I used to ride mountain bikes alot in my home country but after moving to the US I got used to mass transit and driving.

I have been looking into start riding again for over a year now (most likely a fixie... my car got totaled and wont be buying another till winter so I definitely got the motivation again) and @ the moment I am doing all my research on learning all I have to learn before I jump head on into a conversion (for budget wise and I love building and working on things). So far I have run into a few dead ends (no responses) on some great deals on craigslist for a nice bargain starter bike. I will be going down to Recycle-A-Bicycle in brooklyn tomorrow night to volunteer and hopefully pick up a few good tips.

thats about it in a nut shell
Now teach a newbie! lol.

I got back into riding after moving to NYC in '99. Get to know all the cool shops around and get out there on something cheap for a while before shelling out for your dream ride-- that will give you time to get to know your own riding style for a bit before locking yourself into a certain bike at the outset. I found a $40 Panasonic in a thrift shop in the East Village when I moved there. Still my main bike. I wish you the same good luck in finding yours!

Thanks. Yeah I've been looking for a cheap one just to cruise on. Guess i def. have to find and check the thrift stores. the kent that im building is mostly just gonna be used parts (Time's up is pretty nice and cheap and good selection of parts to build a good bike to get around on). Pretty much just a cheap but not too cheap build to get myself used to working on bikes again. I dont really see myself shelling out more than 250 on any bike anytime soon.
