My name is Karen. I'm originally from SW London but now live on the Surrey/Kent borders. I don't have a bike at the moment but am thinking of acquiring another one soon. I used to ride my Dad's bikes when I was a teenager (long time ago now....) and I suppose one thing you ought to know about me is that I am Alec Bird's firstborn and the late Ken Bird's niece. I love reading the Forum Members' memories of Dad and Uncle Ken .... keep 'em coming!

Hi Karen, when I lived in 36 Haverhill road in Balham your dad!s family used to live at the top of the road in a prefab.
I then rode for the 'Bec club and we used to ride out together along with Ken
I had a set of wheels made by Ken and a frame made by an ex Claud Butler builder (£18.00!!!)
When Ken set up shop at Crystal I visited quite often -- Bought an Allin all alloy bike from him and one for my eldest son who rode it for ages
I only heard this week that Ken had died -- a big shock !
