Bikes: 2011 Trek Gary Fisher Montare

Hello From Stavanger/Sandnes Norway!

Not new to biking but new to commuting.

Because of the cost to own a car in Norway I have started commuting to work on my new bike:

2011 Trek Gary Fisher Line Montare (Love it!)

Right now riding is easy, except for the rain. The real test will come this winter when snow and ice are the norm.

My commute is short, 5 miles each way, but I moved from a warm weather climate, Okinawa Japan, and even in June, find it a little on the cold side here in Norway.

Bikes: 1951 Armand Carlsen, 1969 DBS Deluxe, 1949 Diamant, 1978 DBS Winner Tandem, 1955 Herkules... to infinity and beyond!

Greetings!

Whew, you moved from one expensive country to another!

I'm in Stavanger right now visiting my folks, actually, though I live in Oslo. Historically Sandnes was the bicycle production hub in Norway, being the headquarters of Jonas Øglænd Sykler which made DBS and practically all the others.

Svithun bikes were made in Stavanger, being named after the town's patron saint. There, had to bother you with some local history!

Where are you from, originally?

you're right about one expensive country to another. With that said, I will say the Norway makes Japan look cheap.

I'm orginally The US, Maine, not a stranger to cold weather I just need to get use to it again.

Sandnes is great for biking. My 8 yr old son and I can ride for miles without having to worry about cars. I need to get my wife a back and either a baby trailer or seat and the whole family can enjoy bike riding.
