Hello from NJ

Hi Everyone,

I'm a Clydesdale who just turned 50 a few months ago. After saving up for about 6 months, I bought myself 2 Christmas presents this year: a juicer and a bicycle. Been wanting a bike for some time now, and got a good deal on a closeout 7.1 fx from a nearby LBS. Went out for a ride in the park the other day; first time on a bike in almost 40 yrs! I was pretty wobbly at first, but only had to apologize to one strolling fellow for almost running into him. I have to say, it made me feel 12 yrs old again. I actually laughed to myself while gliding down a small hill. I needed an exercise I'd enjoy so that I'll keep at it. I like the instant gratification biking provides after working hard and chugging up a hill, then being rewarded with a fun glide down the other side.

Since my first ride I've been out several more times, and have been enjoying it immensely. We've had a run of good weather here in NJ, and I was so looking forward to a New Year's Day ride, but threw my back out and got sidelined at least for the next few days. I'm getting impatient to get back out there.

Well, I just wanted to say hello. I've been enjoying reading forum discussions for a couple months now, and everyone here seems so friendly and supportive. Thanks for providing such a welcoming atmosphere for those of us who are just starting to enjoy the benefits of biking. And thanks for the inspiration to improve my life and health!

Hi Tom, and welcome from another 50+ NJ Clydesdale (or small fat pony, anyway... ).

Thanks 10 Wheels, Tony and Reedtech. Bikes sure have changed since I last rode one! Really happy with my choice so far though. Hope the nice weather stays around for a little while.

Thanks 1nterceptor. I'm in Monmouth County, near Red Bank. Used to work in West NY. How is it commuting into NYC on a bike? I can't imagine having to deal with rush hour motorists!

I've been doing my commute almost 6

Thanks 1nterceptor, very cool video! Must be a great feeling to slip through the mess that is mid-town traffic like that.
