Hello! From the San Francisco East Bay
Hello! I am so happy I found this site! I am an old (66) bike rider who has decided to get back in the "saddle" after over 40 years!
As a younger (in my 20's & 30's) person I rode all the time! Usually about 30-40 miles a week.
Then in the early 70's I took the ride of my life! Over 1000 miles in a little under a month. We traveled down the West Coast from the Northern end of Vancouver Island in Canada back home to the SF Bay Area.
An absolutely fantastic ride and definately a highlight of my life!
The only problem was I really got burned out on bike riding. I did ride some after that trip but it was no where near a far or as often or as enjoyable as before the trip.
I kept my good old Raleigh 10 speed through several moves and finally, when we moved to a house in the East Bay hills, I gave it to the Salvation Army Thrift store (a very sad day!)
Anyway, I think I am ready to get back on a bike and see if I want to return to what was my favorite pastime.
I am a little confused by the "new" (to me) terminology, material choices and all the options one can get on a bike.
I also need to find a reliable dealer who will help me pick out a good bike for me.
I am happy to see there are so many different forums on this site. As one who has been a couch potato for WAY too long, I was especially happy to see the "Clydesdales/Athenas" group.
Anyway, here I am. I'll be looking for advice on a good bike for my specific needs and budget. The one thing I need to take into account is my arthritic knees (this wasn't a problem "back in the day".
So Hello again. I am looking forward to getting to know many of you over the next months.
