Hello from Alexandria VA
Just getting back to cycling from, well, those crappy old bikes of my youth. I'm now 36, married, father, and trying to lose 40lbs (reading Heft on Wheels last year provided a big dose of inspiration). Riding a Trek 1000. Good bike for the money, but I think I'll be ready to upgrade the Sora group by spring. My other inspiration is my Dad. He's 60+ years old and can ride rings around me right now. My goal is to ride the Hilly Hunderd in southern Indiana with him in October (problem is; I can barely do a flat 20, much less a hilly hundred).

Welcome to the forums. There are lots of DC-area folks on the forums, and they all seem interesting and friendly. Sounds like an excellent goal. Do you commute to work or ride for pleasure?

Well, I do ride to work, but it's not much of a ride..only a 1/2 mile. I'm not complaining - I spent the last 10 years communting 2-3 hours a day on the beltway and 66. Arg. So now I ride for fun and fitness. Thanks for the welcome!

Its another person from NoVA!!! sweet... Well the hilly hundred is 50 miles a day. Its a lot of fun and i think I'll do it next year. I missed it this year but the I know people that went.
When i get back in the summer we'll have to put on a DC area ride.

I'll extend a welcome as well. I live in DC and come through Alexandria on my bike commuting almost everyday.
