I had been reading in the forums looking for information about my bike and decided to register; which led to a welcome email and this post.
I dusted off my old bike, a Raleigh Mountain Tour Tamarack, and am in the process of getting it back in shape. Some things I do myself. For other things that require more mechanical expertise than i have, I'll take into a local shop, which, like me, is located in Sequim, WA, a small town on the Olympic Peninsula. This bike is a 1984 vintage early version "mountain bike" with 650B (26 x 1 1/2) wheels and a Suntour shift system.
The bike is now ride-able after being out of commission for a while. A tune-up and replacement derailleurs got it running again. The original Suntour AR rear deraillleur was bent and had to be replaced, so I upgraded both the front and back to the Suntour Cyclone MII system with used parts I found on eBay. Put over 30 miles on the bike this weekend riding the country roads around here. My plan is to keep working on it and replacing parts that are wearing out. I hope to keep riding this bike for a lot longer and looking as stock as possible, the latter a challenge due to the availability of parts.
I hope to learn more about bikes, particularly this one, on the forum. I'm glad to part of this group. Happy cycling to all.
