new here

Hello every one just want to take some time and introduce my self. First i don't own a CANNONDALE at the moment, my current bike is a JAMIS VENTURA SPORT. But i am currently in the market looking for SUPER SIX or CAAD10. The SUPER SIX APEX is on on sale for 1599 and the 2013 CAAD10 5 LIQ that i like is price at 1599 as well. I test rode both but really could not tell the deference between either of the bikes. I have never own a carbon bike before so i am a little nervous about durability on the carbon vs the aluminum. Some of the research i have bin doing is some what confusing. Like carbon is stronger smother and have a infinite life vs the aluminum. Is this true? or is this some kind of marketing pitch? those of u that bin riding your cannondale how long have u own your bike for? and did u ever have any problems with your aluminum frame braking? i would like to try the SUPER SIX but really couldn't tell the deference of either bikes they both are smooth and stiff. any impute here would be greatly appreciated thanks.

Hi Silver, welcome to Bike Forums.

Based on your bikes of choice I'm assuming you plan to do road cycling. So here's what you do: go over to the Road Cycling forum and do some research before you start posting and asking questions. Read the threads up at the top of the forum intended for new roadies - there is a lot of valuable information in there.

THEN find the search function in the upper right of the forum page, and if you have any particular topics you want to research see if you can find them in past threads using the search function.

THEN just cruise through the current threads, just reading and listening and lurking through the conversations to get a feel for how the guys interract.

Once you are familiar with how things work around here then go ahead and ask a couple of intelligent questions, or just join in on some of the conversations.

DO NOT just barge right into the Road Cycling forum and start asking uninformed, naive, noobie questions like the ones you just asked! The boys over there have little patience for someone who is floundering and hasn't done any homework. They might even ruin your evening and overall Bike Forums experience . . . I wouldn't want that. Just don't be in a big rush, take your time and do some research before you test the waters with questions.

Sound good? Great! Have fun!

Regarding the frame material . . . well if misused, all frames will break. Titanium will take the most abuse before breaking, carbon the least. If you're going to be nervous riding carbon, then just get a metal bike and ride with peace of mind.

Just my opinions, pal. Enjoy the journey.

Welcome to bikeforums!

Please take Billy's advice above to heart. The road cycling forum would only help you after you've helped yourself first to understand the basics.

So after doing some research here. I test ride 2013 CAAD10 5 and 2012 SUPER SIX APEX, and i most say both felt really fast and stiff. Ride both on the smooth pavement and on the side walk. the CAAD10 was a bit harsh on the side walk but really smooth on the pavement. The SUPER SIX however soak up the bumps on the side walk that was pretty impressive. But to me thats the only advantage the SUPER SIX has over the CAAD10 5. So i made my decision this way. Since my current bike is aluminum why not try carbon out. and since CANNONDALE makes the best aluminum bikes. I don't think that the carbon would be any deferent. and with life time warranty. I most say made my decision easier. And since both are the same in price $1599. I chose the SUPER SIX, so i put 20% deposit on the SUPER SIX before i leave today. I going to upgrade the wheels first, so i am now looking at wheels. Like MAVIC KSYRIUM SL, ZIP303 OR EASTON'S. after wheels i am going to do a SRAM FORCE groupo. Cant wait to bring this bike home.
