Greetings from Milwaukee (and snow)

Hi all,

38 years old, living in Milwaukee area, Wisconsin is a truly great and underrated place to ride (except in the winter).

I'm here because I need a hobby, a new direction in life if you will. Career, family life is all great, but its work, kids, bed. Besides family, no real passions in life.

I see these bikers flying up and down the road looking happy as can be, and I thought to myself last year, "Why cant I be one of those guys (or gals)?"

I see my father, a successful and kind man, about to retire with no real hobby/passion in his life and I wonder what he's going to do? He has toiled with biking but never delved full in; his bike sits in the garage gathering cob webs. I dont want that, I want all in.

I've been in mostly good shape my whole life, with a few slightly chubby phases, but I didnt want to go to some gym during nice weather, and I dont want to burn out by being in a gym routine.

Last year I bought a Trek Madone 4.5 after trying out a few bikes and love it. But talk about intimidating: walking into a biking store with limited knowledge, you guys with experience probably forgot how intimidating this process can be (and expensive).

Then man, those clipless pedals were super challenging at first, 2 falls at stop signs, only hurt my ego. And a Road bike was like flying an F-15.

Mostly hit paved trails, little nervous around traffic. Got better/pretty comfortable, but have a ways to go this coming summer. Love traveling by bike through the country, seeing animals and nature, it beats the gym. I see runners on the trails and it looks hard on the body and they look MISERABLE.

Did some longer charity rides and like the idea of raising money for a cause.

This is something I want to pursue for a lifetime, running was just killing my body.

The last week of summer, I rented a mountain bike and hit a Single Track and loved it, I hate to say it but I liked it more than Road biking.

So now in snowy Milwaukee, trying to shed pounds, read and read and read about biking, learn how to take care of my bike, investigate mountain bikes, and grow with the sport.

Take care all!

Benny
