New biker from Toronto; Hi!
Hey everyone!
My girlfriend and I decided that we wanted to bike a lot this upcoming spring and summer and rediscover our city. As a student and soon-to-be graduate, I didn't have a lot of money for the road bikes that a lot of members had. I looked at craigslist and kijiji, but a lot of people (on other forums and social sites) said they were extremely overpriced. I decided, with my $250 budget, to have someone build me a basic starter single speed road bike--just something simple, durable, and that is a good base to start off with. I am expecting the build to finish by the end of this upcoming week and should be on my way to a great spring and summer!
I'm been reading and taking in a lot of information (from the internet and from here) about what to upgrade and whatnot, so that's pretty fun.
Anyways, I just wanted to drop by and introduce myself
Oh and before I forget: Can anyone suggest a $200 step through commuter bike for my girlfriend? She's very specific with what she wants, so she really wants a step through that is black or blue. We are in Toronto, so bikesdirect would probably kill us with shipping.

Welcome to Bike Forums.
At your price range and without the BD option, I would still say look at Craigslist. While postings on CL can certainly be overpriced (sometimes I take a stroll there just to laugh at the ridiculous ones), there are also others that are fairly (somewhat) valued. Furthermore there is usually room for negotiation. Might take some time/patience though.
What is important is that you know what you are getting for the $: component, condition, make, etc. If unsure you are always welcome to post in the appropriate forum and ask for second opinions. Good luck!
