Greetings from Southern Maine
Hello Yall, nice to find a website worth spending some time in. I have spent some time checking out many of the "Recent Posts" and found answers to a few of my lingering questions. Thank you. People here seam to be very realistic and helpful. I have recently purchased a new road bike and can't wait to break her in.
I will be participating in my first Trek across Maine this year and was wondering if anyone in the forums have any feedback on this event (good or bad) :-)

Hi,
I'm from Southern Maine too. I have heard nothing but good about
the Trek; but I've never ridden in it. I hope to do it next year.
What did you get for a bike? Have you been training for the ride?

I ride a stationary bike in the winter months and I also have a set of rollers I use so I don't forget how to hold a line, I also Alpine and cross country ski. I will start actual training as soon as we get a break from the weather (8-12" expected tonight) As far as the new bike goes, I picked up a Raleigh comp-04, she is better looking than my last GF. ha ha. Thanks for asking!

Hi,
I was still riding in December. I rode out to the Maine Mall a few days after Xmas. That was really, really dumb. I did my first ride of the year a couple days ago. Since we just had a blizzard, it will be a while before I can ride again.

Hi, Crankbait! Nice to find a new neighbor! I attempt to commute year-round between Westbrook and South Portland (mall area). It's a bit less frequent in the winter, just because it's more complicated and things don't always come together properly. (So far this winter I've had slush freeze on the moving parts, inadequate gloves, attempting to ride when recovering from sickness -- one day all three at once! That's the day I turned back after a mile and practically collapsed on the living room floor.) Also, I don't yet have studs as Applehead suggests, so I don't even try when it's too slippery (like this recent storm). But when properly dressed and healthy, I have actually successfully commuted in sub-zero temps on occasion.
I haven't been in the Trek either. I must admit that I'm actually not a recreational rider at all, just a commuter. I enjoy the ride, of course, but I started mostly for the environmental and philosophical reasons, and I have a lot of other interests as well (including family) which already keep me too busy to have time to get into more cycling.
Nice to "meet" you!
