Newbie from Corinth, TX (Dallas area)

Hi all!
Just wanted to introduce myself - I'm from the Corinth area of Texas (just outside of Dallas). I'm 35, married with 4 children and have been trying to have a more active lifestyle. I've started two hobbies in the last couple of months - inline skating (aka rollerblading) and now biking. I really enjoy skating even though I'm still a novice and wanted to build up my stamina so I started to explore getting a bike. I ended up getting a Cannondale Quick 5 from a local bike shop after quickly deciding that I don't want to get something from Walmart or Costco or Amazon due to the fact that I've never really enjoyed a bike I've gotten from a big box store and didn't fancy myself putting together a bike that I ordered online and then have to go to a local store to get it adjusted.

Plus, I wanted to do this correctly and have 'experts' guide my decision making process. So, while the bike isn't expensive or anything impressive by bike forums standards, it's way nicer than anything I've ever had before!

I have taken it for a few miles ride in my neighborhood and it's pretty exhilarating. I think I'll be hooked! It's also great so that I can explore some potential blading paths around me so I can haul my rollerblades with me. That's a different sort of rush as you glide across the streets. But one where you tend to get intimately connected to the pavement more than you do on a bike

Anyway, there's a LOT of information here to digest and I am pretty appreciative of all the pointers I've gotten so far. I've gotten a front and rear light, kickstand, bottle holder for the bike so far and I think that'll do me good for a while until I start to understand what I've gotten myself in to!

There's a certain kind of appreciation for the road that you have with a bike compared to a car, even a roadster. It is both more relaxing and more intense than motoring. I think I'll enjoy this for quite some time...

Thanks!
