Bryce from central Florida looking for help.
I live in Crystal River, Florida and I am wanting to get back into bike riding. When I was a kid I was a serious mountain biker in West Virginia. I have barely biked at all in the past 10 years. I have 6 year old or so Walmart Schwinn mountain bike. I like the frame but the rest is not that good. I was thinking of rebuilding it if I could. Any help would be appreciated. I want to get back out in the woods ASAP before I get any fatter.

Welcome to BF and back to cycling! On your bike... If it works OK as is--hop on it, pedal away and don't even look back. If it needs a little $$ I might go for it, but... I'd have a good LBS look at the bike and recommend just how much $$ it'll make sense to sink into it. A WalMart Schwinn may (?) or may not be worth putting a lot of $$ into. You need to take a dispassionate look at the value and potential value of the bike and make an informed and prudent decision there. Good luck with it, though--and as I said, if it works OK as is then get on it and ride it into the ground.

Hi Bryce. I'm in Lecanto (Brentwood ~6 miles west of Hernando). Can't help with rebuilding but you can ride it on the Withlacoochee Trail too, not just off-road.
Once they finish 486 you can ride all the way on the bike path along the road to get to the Withlacoochee Trail.
If you're looking for a bike shop in the area to assist you, I'd recommend Blue Run Bicycles in Dunnellon. All the other good shops are in Ocala or around Spring Hill or south.
Stop by the Southeast Regional subforum and say hello to the locals. Several of us are meeting on Sunday morning to do the Rails to Trails ride together. Want to join us?
