New Cyclist From NE Florida

Hi all,

Name's Mike. 30 years old and currently living in Gainesville, FL for school and then hopefully transferring to Orlando to complete my education at UCF.

I used to race Motocross in high school so I'm not a "total" noob, but as far as road cycling goes, I'm a noob. I just bought my first bike 2 months ago. 2013 Specialized Allez Sport and already thinking about something better lol. 26 miles is my longest ride so far and it's only getting better.

And please... leave the toe clip pedal comments at the door. They have been replaced with Shimano A520's.

When I first bought my first road bike about two months ago, I thought doing 10 miles (without being tired at the end) was an big accomplishment. Now, I've been doing 50 miles without having sore quads the next day. My longest ride so far is 68 miles and I'm hoping to do 80 by the time I start school next month.

Your first road bike is a Learning Bike.

What have you learned about the bike and yourself?

What have I learned?

- That weight and aerodynamics are everything.
- Proper pre ride, during ride, and post ride nutrition is key to better and longer rides.
- Clipless pedals win.
- Do not skimp on riding apparel.
- Bibs win.
- Cyclists that average 26mph+, are gnarly. I average 20-22mph on flat road... But it's getting better.

Glad you figured that out.
