Hey there!

Howdy all -

I'm a new kid in SW Montana. Well, not really 'new' to cycling, but 'new again' to cycling and certainly new to

From 2005 to 2007, I cycled (and ran) a lot. Mostly for weight loss/weight maintenance (289lbs in May 2004, down to 185lbs in Jan 2008, and back up to 255lbs in May 2014) but generally always for triathlons. Fast forward to my PhD (started in 2008) and all fitness activity dropped from my life. Summer/fall 2013 was my first year back on the bike--seriously, at least--in a long time and I've decided to make it a semi-priority in my life. The technology has changed so much (i.e., LOTS of talk about power meters that were SUPER spendy when I was last a serious rider), but my bike is still a beast (just had her tuned/cleaned up!) and she runs like a clock.

My goals for this summer are mainly 1) weight loss, 2) get stronger/fitter/faster (oftentimes, that comes with weight loss...), 3) ride in groups for the first time ever, and 4) maybe take part in one of the local training road races that happen in the valley in which I live.

Anyway, I'm here, I'll read a lot, absorb information, and ask questions where necessary.

Be safe riding!

Cheers and welcome to BF!

To err is human. To moo is bovine.

Who is this General Failure anyway, and why is he reading my drive?
