another newbie fat guy here...

hello all,
i mainly peruse this forum when i'm at work. i decided to start riding a bike
to get in shape and maybe lose some weight. Just had a 1983 Gitane Gransport
that i bought at a garage sale for 20 bucks fixed up and it drives great! Can't believe
how fast this old bike runs I heard "english racers" as we use to call them are good
exercise bikes and i believe it after my initial run yesterday. Only went a couple of miles
but my legs were like noodles and my butt is still sore Looking for a good saddle now,
and i'm leaning toward a Serfas. I also have to get a water bottle holder. Anyway, i hope
to learn a lot on this forum and thanks for having me.
jim

welcome to bf and the joys of cycling.

your but will toughen up and get more used to being on a saddle. with that said, saddle choice varies with each persons shape and size of there butts. sometimes people go through many different styles before finding what right for them. this can get pretty expensive. the good news is most bike shops will have a saddle exchange program/bin. you bring in a saddle you are no longer happy with, put it in the bin and pull out another one to take home and try. you should give each one a few rides to make your decision.

I just changed my saddle from a fizik antares to selle smp. the new one is very comfortable so far. I love the downturned nose. No more getting caught on my shorts after a standing climb.
