Soon to be a new rider
Hello all...
I'm from SoCal ... and i been looking into bikes to commute to work as well as riding with fellow friends (and my dad who owns a road bike).
I been researching and looking for that first perfect bike. At first I was looking into getting a hybrid Giant escape 1, 2, 3, Cannondale CX4 and etc... But lately I have turned to another direction and started looking at a road bike. My LBS has this road package deal for a road bike (Giant Defy 3 plus everything i need to get out there) for under $1k ...
Still undecided whether to go for a road bike or a hybrid. I been reading up threads after threads on which to go for. Roads here in the south bay is decent. My apartment is about 6.5 miles away from work... I'll be going back to the LBS after work today and hoping I'll finally make up my mind. Pretty exciting honestly...
Anyways, would be nice to be part of this forum. Learn some tips and tricks from everyone. Feel free to give some insight if I should go road bike or not =D
Thanks!

Welcome to BF! Good luck with the road vs. hybrid quandary... If you’re going to be a more serious roadie and rack up miles measured in the thousands, definitely go with the road bike. If you’re going to be a casual/leisure rider and rack up miles measured in the dozens (or maybe even low hundreds), you’ll probably be more comfort-oriented and the hybrid might be the idea for you. So---can you predict what your tastes and riding style/preferences will evolve into over the next few years? If you can, you’re all set with which one to choose. Good luck with it.
