Hello from the wet side of Washington!
Hello everyone;
I am a 61 year old fat (morbidly obese) guy who is getting back into bicycling to have fun and lose weight. We bought new bikes this last April. Mine is a Specialized Hardrock and my wife's is a Electra Townee. I found my old bicycling logbook and the last entry was for in 1996 so It's been awhile. I learned to ride as a kid on a way too big Schwinn but really got serious in Jr. High when I recieved a Montgomery Ward 3 speed for Christmas. I used a Mercier 10 speed through college and my wife and I had matching Peugot 12 speeds for awhile. We have stated back slow and sporatic largely due to weather but we are now riding together at least twice a month. I've been out alone twice this last week and will go again later today.
We live in Lynnwood Washington which is between Seattle and Everett. My wife retired this past January. I work for the County Sheriff in the Work Release faciity and have four years and 12 days yet to serve before I can get a full pension.
Part of our incentive is we are going to ride "The Route of the Hiyawatha" mountainbike trail in Idaho as part of our vacation this September. I am also a railfan so I am really pumped up for this trip! 5 more days until vacation starts, 12 twelve more until the ride! Back in 1995 I did a similar ride locally on Snoqualmie Pass.

Welcome, John.
I also started riding again in April and my last ride was in 1996. Though I am on the other side of the country in Florida.

welcome & cheers to the goal!
I used to live over in Monroe/Snohomish this past summer so I know where you are talking about . That sounds like a cool trail, I would like to eventually get into mountain biking sooner or later (once I get some extra money for a mtn bike). Let us know how it goes!

Oh man, all those places you've mentioned are gorgeous. My favorite of those are Glacier & Tieton. Hells Canyon was cool as well, I got to watch people base jump off one of the bridges...I forget the name of it but it was pretty high up there. Sounds like you'll have a splendid time

Yellowstone and the Grand Tietons were equally inspiring. I definitely want to come back someday and ride the bike trails in Jackson Hole.
