Hi all!
I've joined because I wanted to drool over some photos of a certain member's Bridgestone XO-1 -- the bicycle I aspire to own, or at least recreate.
I am a cycle mechanic working at Pembrokeshire Bikes so am always having carbon sculptures thrust into my hands.
I have a few bikes.... A columbus steel frame MTB I brazed up myself in Canterbury (currently waiting for a new paint scheme) a steel lugged MTB made by an unknown builder in Carmarthenshire, though that is uncertain. Probably from the late '80s. Since working for a Cannondale dealer, I picked up a couple of classics: An R900 in polished finish, built up with the ever controversial moustache handlebars and a Super-V freeride, bought on a whim, that's absolutely excellent fun, though doesn't seem to match the appearance of anyone else's in internet land.
What are my dreams and aspirations? Well, I'd like to be making and painting frames in steel. Maybe just a few a year. I find it to be really satisfying work. I'm not a big advocate of carbon for so very very many reasons, not least of which is the accident I had at work whereby a single crank arm fell from 15 feet onto the toptube of a carbon aero superbike retailing at £2700. Ouch!
Thanks for welcoming me!
