Finally decided to join the forum instead of just looking for info. I am a 40 year old married father of two boys trying to get back into riding. Live the Dallas, TX area. I ride a Trek 1000 on the road, not sure of year anymore, but old enough to have down tube shifters. My MTB is a Trek 8000, again unsure of year, but hard tail and no susp. forks. Currently ride mostly at night and weekends, average around 60 miles/ week. Thanks to all of the members here for their great info on bikes, accessories, etc. You have been a great help as I get back into riding. Any hints on how to get the wife, who does not ride, to understand my desire/need to replace my old roadie with something a bit newer? Also, any suggestions on where to look for a new roadie in the sub $1000 area? I am 6 foot and 225 lb.

Welcome to the forums. According to their site https://www.trekbikes.com the latest version of a TREK 1000 can be had for under $700. The next 2 upgrade models, the 1200 & 1500 go for approx. $900/$1100 respectively. Should be able to locate a couple of TREK dealers in the big D area. Actually, there's a link for locating dealers on the website also. Good luck.
