I am not trying to defend or attack the city, county, or state engineers, managers, mayors or anyone else at public meetings. I am just saying the ones I have been to have quoted the higher costs that I linked to. The public is required to vote on the numbers they are given or the city council has to decide based on who they believe.

Our little city city got a complete streets Grant and put in or is putting in one square mile of bike lanes boxing in the old down town area. I was surprised we got that but those were the numbers they used to get the grant.

I will say again I am not saying what it should cost, does cost or any thing else. I am saying that is what the report to the voters it did cost.

Yes, and as you mentioned, there are different classes of bike facilities with different costs. Also, it depends on the costs of right of way and other site-specific variables.

A 5.8 mile stretcvh of brand new bike path (MUP, not bike lane) in my city is projected to cost 1.79 million dollars.

Anyway, I'm glad that people like you are working hard to get the facilities built, and trying to ensure that they will serve bicyclists well.
