Pokemon GO speed limit is too darn low

Anyone else on this forum been playing it? Part of the game is walking certain distances to hatch eggs, ones requiring longer distance giving you rarer pokemon. Distance is gps based, not pedometer based, but only distance traveled at a walking speed counts, and even a leisurely bike ride is too fast. I wish they'd increase it a little, especially because your character in the original handheld games could ride a bicycle to move around the map faster, so it seems appropriate!

I'm just slightly salty about this because back when I was commuting by bus I'd walk a lot in between walking to and from bus stops and walking at lunch time. But now I've been biking to campus and nearly anywhere I would have walked I go by bike instead. So as far as the app can tell I'm a total layabout

The GPS distance tracking is also wildly inaccurate, in both directions. I've had 2km eggs hatch in 5 minutes of strolling, and had a 10km egg take 5 days to hatch, including ~7 miles of walking and over 60 miles on the bike.

I also agree the speed is too low. It has to be ~4mph. I think even brisk walking might be too fast.

the speed limit appears to be about 10mph, but the gps in the app is pretty wildly off at times.

I currently have 2km egg that was started when a 5km was at 0.4km of progress. At this moment, the 5km egg is at 0.7km, and the 2km egg is at 0.9km.

2km eggs must be more aero.

I've used it while riding my bike and it seemed to be hatching my eggs. I was just strolling around and I sped up a little if I knew my next location was far.

I'm just glad to learn that there is a speed limit; I was afraid people driving cars could play it.

Oh, they are. They slow down to play apparently. There was a youtube video showing someone running into a police car (with its flashing lights on) and admitting he was "playing that stupid game".

the speed limit is only to incubate the eggs. You can still drive around to look for Pokemon and this is where people are causing accidents
