The answer from cooker is very good.
There is lots of gearing info on gearing on BF and all over the Internet. Or go to a good bike shop. Appropriate gears might get you over those hills without sweating!

We rode with our dog friend to a spot to get some work done at a nice beer garden. She seems happy with her new chariot.

About 2.5 km walk ... running (walking?) an errand and doing some window shopping.

I agree. I guess we'd have to compare car passengers to pedicab and rickshaw passengers to see how car, bike and foot locomotion compare for passenger sightseeing.

Rode the usual 11 km to work, and may meander the long way home later. It's kind of an orphan day, in that it is a workday squeezed between a weekend and the July 1 Canada Day holiday, so a lot of people took it off to have a 4 day weekend. Quiet on the street and somewhat quiet at the office. Like Black Friday without the shopping.

Like so many ideas expressed on the Internet, and especially on this list, this idea is as accurate as some people want to believe.

Since you asked.
In the morning I biked to the Hy-Vee Supermarket for a few items. About 3 miles R/T.
My wife and I biked to the local hospital where I swim every day. She reads her Kindle during my hour in the pool, changing and showering. About 11 miles R/T.
After lunch I rode to the post office and to the library where I exchanged a few DVD's For tonights watching. About six miles R/T.
I listened to about 1½ hours of a new audiobook I just started today while cycling to and fro.

I didn't see anything all that special as I've ridden these streets for numerous years, but I wasn't looking for anything to get all excited about. Not a problem since I was riding for practical reasons (ya know, like, get somewhere) as well as bicycling enjoyment and was not looking to be visually stimulated into a state of wonderment by every little thing as I go along.

Pretty routine and no BFD. Hardly worth writing about IMO but you did ask.

I ride because I like to bike. I don't walk anywhere for transportation or pleasure.

While I may not be thrilled with Endomondo's UI, it seems to be the most accurate of the various trackers I've used.

I walked to the drugstore and back, about 1/2 mile. Mostly I sat on the porch and read some articles. It was 87F and 70% humidity with relentless sun, so I'm just trying to stay cool!

More walking at lunch ... about 2 km.

I'm just glad to be out doing these 2-3 km walks just about every day right now. I have lingering lung damage from the penicillin and it's difficult to breathe.

Part of the time difference can be explained by the necessity of navigating between the apps to start/stop, but I don't think that is all of it (though with my vision and needing to 'study the screen'...), but I got no idea on the calorie consumption- different algorithms?
Might be another report later.

I think I'll take another walk and have Runtastic and Endomondo running and compare.
May or may not be another one today...

Endomondo logged 30:03 to go 1.29 miles at 2.58 mph w/219 kcal.
The main reason for the time difference is when I went to stop the Runtastic app, it said it had encountered an error when I launched it and walked away from my tablet. When I picked the tablet back up, the app was still running...
Did have an odd encounter with a motorist, though. Was walking back from the c-store when he pulls up alongside and asks if I had run out of gas in my car. When I told him it was for my mower, he said okay, and sped off. I guess he was gonna offer me a ride

Thanks - I had planned to do a long bike ride to celebrate the national holiday, but all day they were predicting thundershowers, even though it only rained heavily and briefly around 9-10 am. So I kept waiting, until about 3 pm when I decided to go for it.

Even though it was hot and humid I decided to start my quest to ride the 7 or 8 steepest hills in Toronto this summer. As discussed in another thread they are all pretty tame, mostly rising 20-40 metres in 300-500 meters, except for one that rises 90 m in 1 km. So I did two today, but I had to ride a 35 km loop to get to them.

One of the streets is a crescent, that drops down a slope and comes up again, and from google it looks like the northern section is the tough part, as it ends up at a much higher point than the south end. However as I rode in from the south I came to the drop, and there was a warning to trucks of an 18% grade, so the southern sloped section, although short, is much steeper, rising - or in this case, dropping - 20 m in just over 100 m.

I was really hot, and didn't want to do both ends of the crescent, so I resolved to come back another day for the south end, and rode on to the north end. I have pretty low gearing, so I just slowly spun my way uphill, while above me a young woman walked her bike up while her boyfriend zigzagged. I didn't gain much on them, if at all. Then I had a cooling off coast to another of the planned climbs a few blocks away (it was shorter and steeper than the north crescent, but didn't look anywhere near as steep as the south crescent) and then headed home.

I was very disappointed when I uploaded my Garmin files and found they don't give the elevations very accurately.

Walked to do a couple very important errands at lunch ... will talk more about them later.

It is winter ... but today the temperature reached 17C. However the wind was gusting to 80 km/h.

You just never know what you're going to get one day to the next around here.

I ran 4 - 5 miles up on the logging roads. Then I cut firewood, but right outside my fence. Now I'm in
my hammock. ..

Celebrated the 4th of July by riding my bike over to the local country club to watch their fireworks.

Afterwards, there was a huge traffic jam, but I just sailed right through it.

Saturday I explored some more logging roads. This time I had 3 different maps on my tablet/gps and a BLM map that all agreed that a road connected Falls City to the north to the Dallas Reservoir and for once they were right. The road down the other side of the ridge was so awful (had been logged when very muddy, was steep, and mostly big rocks) that, after taking a break at the lake, I headed farther west and looped back around and passed through the Black Rock Mountain Bike Area and home that way. That route was actually not nearly as steep and the road was better. It did not occur to me to take any pictures.
