I've been thinking about getting something that would fold up, like on this website: https://www.tuftandneedle.com/bed/shikibuton.

I don't like a hard mattress. Maybe it would be OK if I put it on top of my foam cushions. But it's kinda pricey to experiment. Thanks for letting me know.

My stevenson-warmlight down filled air mattress triple bag was quite nice , while on Bike tour.
Although a bit bulky , but tied on top of the rear rack, well ..

I switched to a hammock about a month ago. My back pain is gone! I sleep soundly! It is miraculous, the change in my well-being. As a bonus, I can thoroughly wash my bed whenever I want. Highly recommend.

Do you ever fall out of it?

Nope. The risk of falling out is more of a thing in spreader-bar hammocks or hammocks that are hung really tight. I have a nice, open-weave string hammock that I attach with a nice, low, loose hang. Then I lay myself in it diagonally. It wraps right around my body. No troubles. Very soothing. And, miraculously, my chronic back and knee problems have been eased.
I also have a solid cloth hammock, and find it to be less comfortable than the string hammock, but still better than a bed.

We were entertained a little, but more dismayed to hear that the mattresses made in China exuded all sorts of chemicals for a long time after being installed (ours doesn't smell one bit), and that they are strapped down so tightly to increase the numbers going into the shipping containers, that the top and bottom ones have to be discarded on arrival because they are so damaged from the treatment.
The beds we did get weren't cheap. But we're hoping they will last at least a decade and so far the verdict on our selection has been positive.

I saw https://www.tuftandneedle.com/bed on duckduckgo the other day, and they looked interesting. Has anyone used them?

And for the first time in a long time I've been falling asleep seconds after I lie down, instead of tossing and turning for 15 minutes, 30 minutes, an hour.
