Carfree in the NFL

Actually, he's not carfree, since he does own a Tesla. But Connor Barwin, currently playing for the Philadelphia Eagles, does take public transit and ride a bike. While he was playing in Houston, some of his teammates joined him in riding their bikes to the stadium. They were known as "millionaires on bikes" for a time.

Here's a quote from Barwin,* which I think shows that he really gets it:

"All that **** in between [those highways], that's just a 15-minute drive to most people," McGinn says. "When you start riding your bike and living on the gritty here and there, you see all that space that most of the city doesn't see. We knew artists, bar owners, chefs, graffiti artists, musicians, newspaper and magazine writers. That's where life happens, in that in-between part that most people drive by on the highway at 80 miles an hour and don't get to see."
damn that's real right there.

Possibly Barwin is one of the growing number of young people who are choosing to drive a lot less, even though he obviously could afford to own several cars.

A quick take on Connor Barwin:

A longer feature piece from Grantland, worth the time to read it:

*Correction: the quote is not from Connor Barwin.

Read carefully. I find Barwin to be an interesting fellow, indeed, but that is NOT a quote from Barwin.

Rides a fixie? Takes the bus? $36 million contract?

Interesting character.

What is Grantland? Long articles about sports. Who's the audience?
