Do you have any New Year resolutions?
Will you be changing anything, big or small, in 2014?

I have one traditional style resolution, and that's to cut back on my drinking...
...of coffee at work. I have no plans to stop drinking coffee or tea (which I drink by the pot when I'm at home), but at work I guzzle coffee and it's gotten out of hand lately. I can't go two hours without coffee, and that's absurd.
Less traditionally, I've resolved that this summer I'll finally quit the worthless but pretty well-paying job I've held for the past six years, go for a long bike tour, then come back (or just stop somewhere on the trip?) and find a new line of work entirely.

I will try to be more conscious of my decision making, so I don't do or say things impulsively or out of emotion without thinking it through. And continue to work on my eating and exercise habits. And try to keep a positive out look and be grateful for what I have.

No. It's just another day, and Wednesday to boot.

That's weird. These are the same three things that I want to deal with. Especially the first one, impulsivity...sometimes I wish life was like BF, where you can usually delete a hasty comment before anybody sees it.

This is going to be the year that my household transitions from car lite to car free.
I've been threatening to sell the car for a while, but we keep moving - and cars are useful for moving, especially with animals. We have one more move coming up next month, but unless I get flighty and decide that I'd like to try yet another geographical region, it's a place we can stay until we die. Car lite has been working out just great for a while, but like two things broke on the car this week, and that costs money. So: once the move is done, the car is gone.
My other resolution is to not get flighty and try to move again.

This is the year that my wife will join me in my transportation cycling and touring. She never learned to ride as a child (under this guy's regime, it wasn't considered ladylike ), but we recently heard about some free classes for women and, after four sessions, she'd learned to keep her balance.
Now it's just a matter of being patient while she gains confidence.

That's sweet! Do be patient, riding a bike is one of the easiest of things to do, but one of the hardest to learn. What seems as natural as walking to us, seems like a disavowal of physics to the newbie: "you want me to balance my weight on those two skinny tires...and actually go somewhere!?!"

My personal resolution boils down to under commit and over deliver.
My professional resolution is to take quicker and more decisive action when managing performance.

More cycling!
In general ... not specifically as a part of a car-light lifestyle, although that may happen too.

Yep! I wasn't sure how many of us would remember that.... but SNL made his passing very funny at the time.

Nothing cheers me up more than an old dictator passing on. (Ahem...Castro) It was pretty funny when they dropped the ayatollah's body during the funeral procession, and that wasn't even scripted.

Sounds like the stuff that floats around places I've worked.
But what does it really mean?

Yeah. I made some resolutions. Wrote them down on a piece of paper.
The dog grabbed the piece of paper. He ate the piece of paper.
I gave him a little treat.

And to that end, in the last week (some of which was back in 2013) I cycled 125.5 km ... so I'm off to a good start. The plan is to keep it up or do more.
