Sara, fit is everything. IMO it is more important than anything else short of horsepower, and it has a direct effect on horsepower. Small changes in fit can mean real measurable watts, and significant fitting issues can mean serious compromises in power output. A good fitter is worth every penny you pay for them. Like I mentioned before, my fitter found a few small adjustments. Bars 2cm too wide, stem 1cm too short, saddle out of position. But once I dialed all that in, it was like my bike became an extension of my body. I like to use the term "neutral". It goes where I want it to go just by thinking about it.

If your Look is too small, no amount of fitting is going to get you to that neutral point. It might get you close, but not all the way there. Race the Bianchi, or find a more suitable race frameset.

This might be too big for you, but it sure is one hell of a frameset.

Welcome wanders, glad to have you here and glad to have someone join whom I've met in person.

AzTR, glad to hear the fitting went well. People are usually amazed that I run fairly narrow bars, but I've always run them as narrow as possible (40 cm C-C) because it caused me less upper back pain and was more aero (at least that's what I read back in the 1970s). I understand moving the seat back to effectively give you more seat height but that also compromises your "ideal" fore and aft position. Hope the shop can get you a longer seat tube cap.

Sara, my 2 cents is that you need to get a fitting from someone who has a fitting machine/bike. That way you can get a fit that isn't influenced by your current bikes. Then you can see whether or not you can transfer the fit to your current bike. I have unusual body proportions for my height (leg length, arm length, etc) and many stock frames for someone with my basic inseam won't work for various reasons. Finding a good frame is almost a Holy Grail for me. Anyway, figure out where your contacts points should be and then get a frame that will work with those contact points. Hopefully the L'Una is one that will work. I guess that was more than 2 cents.

BTW, some people are lucky and can make good power from almost any position on a bike. Me, I need every advantage I can get and I am extremely anal about my fit.

Sara, I certainly wouldn't spend your limited time riding the Look, nor would I suggest a fitting on the Look, as that might be just throwing money away. I agree with replicating the Bianchi fit on the Look, but doing that may still not make it feel the same.

One thing I've learned about fits is that getting a fitting from a mediocre fitter, or a casual-riding oriented fitter, is worthless. You are better off evolving the fit yourself, especially when you are getting advice from someone as knowledgeable as Ex. On the other hand, a true race-oriented fitter, who understands what matters and who has the tools to properly evaluate you, can be of tremendous value. I believe you want to already be fairly evolved, and in good shape, before that kind of fitting, because, as Hermes has said: "Fitness = Fit".

I knew I'd get stellar advice! I'm sending you all virtual hugs (I'll be able to do that in person with some of you, soon - and I WILL!).

I'll do as RevChuck suggested with the Look (he had some great ideas on how to measure). We'll see what happens from there.

I am very reluctant to move the PowerTap over to the Bianchi. I don't want those wires all over that bike, among other things. The Look is the trainer, for now, anyway.

Sara- the Park Tool website has a printable template that you can measure and record the bike setup. If you make adjustments you can always go back to the original measurements, or use them for another bike.

We're seriously considering an offer on a house in Reno; it would mean selling off our other Reno properties and the SoCal house and making Reno our "sole" residence. The place is undervalued by about 50% or more because of the market. Large house. The shop/garage is literally big enough to build a 150m track inside.

There's a lot to consider and a lot of conflicting pros and cons. Huge potential upside financially, lifestyle impacts, financial impacts. There's a fair bit of addition by subtraction, some simplification, but there's some losses in there too. I swore I wasn't going to move again until they buried me but this is really too good to pass up. Or did I just miss skiing?

I want to throw up.

It is a long drive to any track but I suspect cheap air tickets from Reno to SoCal. You can setup bikes in SoCal as we have done so you can fly down and ride and race. However, we are definitely thinking warmer and denser air than colder and thinner air. YMMV

I didn't go quite that far when we bought this house 18+ years ago but I did say that we needed to stay in this house until we retire. Retirement seemed a long way off back then. Now it may much sooner than later. I like where you live in SoCal except for the thick (smoggy) air that you can get there. Simplification is good. So is several years of stability. Glad that you have the opportunity. Glad that I'm not in your shoes.

Hope it works out for you Ex. We built our current home in 2000 with the intention of selling and downsizing once the kids finished college and hatched from the best. We have been empty nesters since 2006 but have been reluctant to move because we're very comfortable in way too much house.

The shop/garage sounds nice. But when you fill it full of stuff it'll be that much harder to move again.

Did a major rethink last night. Woke up at 4 am to Ridley twanging the spring door stop (she's been doing this since puppyhood to let us know she wants out). Couldn't get back to sleep. Considered a plan "B". Will discuss with Mrs. Ex on the way down to soCal.

I wish I had such problems. Been living in the same rental house for 12 year. Rented from a childhood friend and he swore he would sell it to me at a great price when he retired. Well, 2 years ago he died and his sister now owns it. I've asked her to sell it to me several times and she just says no.
I don't make enough to qualify for a decent house in SoCal, at least not near the work.
I've thought about trying to buy a cheap house in the mountains and live off SS in 3 years, might be a crappy idea, too.
