Flight to Mexico City. Exit row, internet, my own food, and direct flight make it bearable. Bummed to miss riding with ex at nats, though.

After the long drive to south NJ for yesterday's race, the wife, pooch and I headed north to our place near lake placid. Plan was to ride whiteface today. Isadorah hit me with an early surprise B-day present of a picnic table, so I got to enjoy coffee outside this morning listening to the birds.

On the heels of racing yesterday expectations for Whiteface were low, but I rode it at around 55:00 minutes. Which while not a PR ain't too shabby. Descended, shivering and rode to lake placid. Fortunately Izzy passed me on the way and stopped at a roadside store and grabbed me a muffin as I was on the edge of a bonk.

Farmer's market after a walk around town.

My mishmash kit is a compilation of 19 years of team sponsors.

gstenib's post made me realize i need to ask you guys - any of you northeast folks have a recommendation for me for riding near Burlington and/or Montpelier, VT?

I'm gonna be there for a week in mid-September visiting the M.I.L. and assorted friends from my husband's past (he grew up in Burlington), and I'm going to rent a road bike. I've seen the 6 gaps route and might try to do some chunk of that - which parts should I do? Where else should I ride?

you did indeed, my dear. thanks

what a freaking great weekend this has been. I'm pretty stoked to see what the coach dreams up for the next few weeks of vacation, and what the coast of Maine brings this year.

Found a working Droid phone on my 54.7 mile ride. Now to figure out how to get it back to the owner before the battery dies. I did turn it off. Someone is lucky most of the 50+ racers had 55 mile rides scheduled this weekend.

Don't hit the blue band at the wrong angle at 40 mph.

Guess someone's going to re-think his tubular gluing method.

Does wood hurt as much as asphalt? (or ice plant).

The PGA has cancelled the fan favorite caddy races. They think the caddies risk injury by running 150yds. I think they might fear that the fan favorite activity could morph into Golfer Races.

You have to watch golf on a high definition TV so that you can watch the grass grow in between shots. <JK>

I think the Scottsdale fans mostly attend for booze tent parties - from what I'm told, they are real bacchanals.

Got my Look back together. RD rebuilt, spoke and nipple replaced and wheel trued, RD hangar finally came in - $35, WTF!? - and it turned out the chain was bent as well, so I got an Ultegra chain at retail . $310 w/labor and tax. Sheesh.

Winding down the season. Motivation pretty much not there, really want to just hang out with the wife and dogs, ride when I feel like it and not have every thing else revolve around whatever race is tomorrow for a bit. Do stuff like rebuild that old funny bike and finish my garage.

I know I'm going to hell.

I hear you.

You were talking about one particular thing coming up...that off the table?

I race tonight, for fun mainly, then vacation starts in earnest (I've been off this week but we leave for Maine on Saturday).

I have really good form right now (pity I miss the state crits and tather), but there's a chill in the air. I have tentative plans to race until Boston in late September, but should the wheels start to come off the bus between now and then I imagine I'll pull the plug.

That circle of hell, by the way, is my basement...where I'll be heading. Inferno page 245 (if I recall correctly).
