In other news (not the pros and cons of tubeless tires), Stephen Hawkings has revised his time frame for humans to find another planet upon which to live from 1000 years to 100 years. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/...=.918f11de548d
At the end of the article he talks about the role of artificial intelligence.
“Once humans develop artificial intelligence, it will take off on its own and redesign itself at an ever-increasing rate,” Hawking warned in recent months. “Humans, who are limited by slow biological evolution, couldn't compete and would be superseded.”
Maybe Stephen has been watching too many reruns of Terminator movies. However, AI is going to change our way of life and IMO, create another round of winners and losers.

I think AI is a bit over stated and over blown at the moment. Of course, maybe computers have different taste buds...

Watson makes suggestions that no human would ever make, like adding milk chocolate to a clam linguine or mayonnaise to a Bloody Mary.

I made my 1st batch of Shoyu Tare sauce for Ramen this week:
Shoyu Ramen Recipe Recipe | Bon Appetit
It was sorta worth the effort but the leftover Tare is an excellent replacement for Worcester sauce in a Bloody Mary.
Using 50/50 Picante Clamato & V-8, the usual horseradish, Tabasco, celery salt and Polish potato vodka we have a new Umami-bomb Mary for Sunday morning brunch. Mayo? Hmmmm......

Is it a NYC specific phenomenon to make masters crits insultingly short? Grant's Tomb, Orchard Beach, Harlem ... in the last 3 years, of all these races, the shortest was 21 minutes, longest was 30 minutes. Harlem this year is scheduled for 10 laps which is 17 minutes at most!
I'm officially done with this. They are great races and it is super-fun to race in the city. But I'll skip these races or do the P123 fields from now on.

Are the other crits on the same day relatively short too? If so, it might be due to the promoter being required to fit X crits into Y timeframe, otherwise known as trying to stuff a gallon of **** into a quart bucket.

Yeah, they are shorting them a bit here as well. We *****ed a streak because we had some of the biggest fields. Time was added.

It seems to be a regional crit-specific phenomenon and I don't really get it. Park circuit races in the NY area regularly get 75-100 guys in the masters fields. But crits are more like 20-30 guys. So the promoters make the masters crits shorter, so fewer guys sign up, etc.
It's not like those park races are safe -- speeds are very high, course width changes all the time, and there are all sorts of external randomnesses like strollers rolling down the steps, drones falling out of the sky, etc. It's a mystery.

So I ask the wife if she will be home this evening because I'd like to see how bad it may hurt if I ride outside so I can call in a SAG
She asks....
Do you have any helmets that you have not(!) crashed?
<walks away with head down>
No respect I tell ya, no respect.

My favorite:
Me (after getting spooked in swirling wind and kind of giving up on my TT): I really need to get more fierce in these races.
Spouse: Yeah, I know. This is why you're never going to amount to anything.
<Gust of wind hits SUV and blows us around the freeway>
Spouse: Wow, the wind is really bad!
Tell me about it, lol.

I never get asked how the race went any more. But when it goes well, I volunteer the information!
Nice ride in the catskills today. And oh what a glorious day. (photo by my buddy)

A local brewery that makes Belgian farmhouse ales sponsors the team, so they made some cross-marketed kits for riding around in. Can't really race in them though, too Belgian.

Really enjoyed my trip to Cooperstown a few years ago when I visited. They had a picture of Eddy Merckx in their main dining area. I've lost count of how many different styles of their beers i've had over the years.
