I mentioned my question about whether my HR was where it should be to my coach. She reviewed my data from over the summer through now and decided to move my HR training ranges up about six bpm. Since I've been training with power the whole time I've been working with her, it hasn't really been an issue, but now that I'm using HR due to the new wheels it's more relevant. I guess it's just another way to state the old "It doesn't get easier, you just get faster" thing. Just what I need, a new way to depress my CTL.

My evening into night group ride today. Eleven riders showed up who wanted to ride fast for 37 miles. We did have to soft pedal a few times for stragglers to catch back on allowing me to catch my whatever! Normalized power at 274, TSS 151.5, Intensity factor 0.992

I did a little Venge-ence yesterday. Tuesday Group Ride, it's called the "Tuesday No Real Job Ride". 40 miles, give or take, 2500 feet of climbing. Ex cleared me to ride the Venge, and I was anxious to see what she'd do. I didn't warmup properly, I didn't cool down properly, but I had a good time! I was at or near the front during the whole ride (I can't help it ), and I did some things I'd NEVER do in a race....like bridge up to a young cat 3 guy from a chase group of three riders, going across a gap of over 100 yards at 31 MPH. I really thought the other two guys would come with me, but nope. I sat up after that one, big deal. The (you) guys are just stronger than me overall, even the slow ones. But, I'm close! Climbed Barloy Canyon Road (top 1/4 mile is 13%) was handled in TT fashion, I didn't try to work very hard, I just motored my way up in the 39/28. The Venge climbs okay, but it's not what I'd call a climbing bike.

Overall, a fun ride! The Venge is pretty lively and stiff, but OMG is it easy to stay at higher speeds on it. Nice to go smell the roses!!!

That's actually as awesome as it gets. How did the u-turn practice go? Good results?

200K on Saturday, and was hoping for under 7 hours. Missed it by a couple minutes, but it sure was good to be on the bike, and feel good for that distance. 3.5 hours on Sunday with the club, which ended up mainly having racers show up. Last hurrah before many are taking a couple weeks off. It was good, and fast.

I think it's more subtle than that - at least on this side of the pond. Some racers are Freds - even ones that talk about Freds. But please don't ask me to define. I once heard a guy describing how he used fake carbon wheels so as not to look like a Fred - 'What a Fred', I thought!

1:20 on the MTB today. First hour was mostly uphill, around 2200' of climbing on single track. Front brake kept rubbing until finally I stopped to fix it. Turns out the axle was loose so the wheel was floating back and forth and dragging bad. Finally got to the top of the ridge and got a chance to try out the new tires. Not very good.

So I need to decide if they are worth replacing; plan is to get a new bike fairly soon and go up to 27.5 wheels. Or not. Might just spend a little and Di2 this one.

But hey, I rode, and hard. I figure 100 TSS. Also weighed myself for the first time in a long time. With 2 hours this month the scale wasn't nearly as ugly as I had though it might be. 13 pounds over Gila weight, 8 over crit monkey weight.

So it begins.

I like your thinking!

LAJ, thank you! I am positively thrilled to have it, and I can't wait to push a pedal in anger on it. Yay!

Rode the mtb for a lap last night at a hard pace. I felt great and had something left in the tank, so I decided to ride the first third of the trail again. I passed another rider and for whatever reason I went race mode when I intended to be noodling for saddle time. Luck would have it I was flying along the side of a ridge and snagged a pedal on a tree root and had the bike jerked out from under me. The bike and I slid down over hill with me still clipped in. During the slide my right side calf cramped up making getting out of the bike a challenge. Got back up the hill, cleaned myself off and got back to riding just as the guy I passed earlier caught up. No serious injuries other than a few scrapes on my knee and shin. Applied two large bandages and my wife didn't have to to put the "blood sheets" on the bed.

Feel really out of sorts today. My legs hurt more than they have in a long time, and I just feel crummy overall. I hope I'm not coming down with something. I'm glad it's a day off. Oh, and it's raining. That's actually very cool!

LAJ - Glad to see you back and on the mend!

Sara - Since it's now about supper time at your place, hopefully you can relax with something dark, strong and tasty. It's a shame you don't have one of IBO's Mason jars, you could put it to good use after the week you've had.

Group ride tonight. Didn't get yelled at and kept my efforts to a few openers and a couple moderate pulls. The season ending track races of the season are tomorrow night. Cleveland is having a special bicycling weekend with multiple events that includes racing under portable lights at the velodrome. There are over 2.000 people signed up for the events that includes a night ride, pump track, fondo, crit, cyclo cross and the track races. Included in the track program is a kiren with a $300 prize which will be my focus of the evening.

A'Jet. That sounds like a wonderful weekend of racing with something in it for everyone.

Unpacked and built up both road bikes... and so it continues.
