I need to get some time on the Venge, which I rarely ride (and it's SRAM, unlike my Look, which is Ultegra). So, I dorked it up by taking the training wheelset off of the Look, swapping the 11 speed cassette onto the PowerTap hub (it apparently has an 11 speed freehub), putting regular brake pads on it, and putting those (heavy) OpenPro wheels on it. I'll give it a whirl today, can't hurt.
Had a nasty reaction to a tetanus shot night before last, and it lingered into the morning. When I started to feel good, the effects went away pretty quickly, so I went out and did a training ride. For some reason, I was slipping back into my old "full throttle!!!!" mode (I just don't get that), going way above power targets, not cooling down properly (going way too hard) and it was hurting me - a lot. Coach picked up on it pretty quickly and reined me in. What is odd is that I really wasn't aware I was doing it. I had a concern that I had lost the top end and dig I had prior to the stage race, and I was probably pushing myself to regain it. Listen to the Force, Lea. Calm down. Back on track. I've got a great coach!

Hypothetical question.
All values contained herein are purely fictional and are used for demonstration purposes only.
You know your 20 min power from a short race. Say 290W
You know your 60 min from a longer race. Say 275W
Unfortunately they are on different bikes
Which do you use whilst training?
Since they are within 5% or so flip a coin?
Sent using radiated emissions
Please excuse the brevity and any misspellings

The traditional way to figure FTP is to your 20 minute power by 5%. 5% of 290 is 14.5, which 275.5. I don't see a problem.

What kind of race? A TT, fine. A road race or crit, it depends. When in doubt, test. Don't fear the test. Embrace it.

A lot of folks have a different FTP on the TT bike, usually lower. Depending on the type and purpose of the workout, I have folks adjust for the difference. Worth asking your coach if she's doing this...

IBOHUNT - you don't owe me a Mason jar's worth for that...but I'll take it just the same.
I've gotten in two rides since my epic all night session. The first was a recovery pace ride, which was really nice; the second was an hour at endurance pace, which was much more tiring than it should've been. Dammit, 40 years ago this wouldn't have fazed me!
Oh, wait...
My appetite has pretty much disappeared as well, I had to force myself to eat lunch yesterday, though less appetite wouldn't hurt in the long run. I guess that'll straighten itself out in time as well.
I'm going to take it easy but keep riding - the weather is too nice to sit this out.

Okay, I went out this morning and felt like I'm about 90% back. AP was 30 watts higher than yesterday's ride and I felt better afterwards. Plumbing intervals tomorrow, need to pull off a section of exterior wall to access a cracked water pipe that created its own little brook in the back yard.

I'm still working my way back from the stage race and the week after. Feeling better, but not the same, still, that I felt before the stage race. I'm pretty sure I'll be good to go week next when I need it.
I'm not racing enough, and I'm not getting to do the kind of races I want to do - crits. My "life schedule" just hasn't worked out for that yet this season. Getting a little frustrated with that.

3x30' at 85% alternating 5 minutes at 80 cadence, 5 minutes at 100, on the TT bike, on the state TT course. That was remarkably difficult today.

Back on the bike as of Saturday. Couple of hundred TSS noodling around. A bit stale, but think I'm back up and running.

I'm getting back on track. I've been following coach's guidelines closely, being as disciplined as I can, and my form is coming around. The last two training rides felt really, really good.
Valygrl will be in town for a local race Sunday. I'll be there to watch. No racing for me, I have three races starting Tuesday, along with a 330 mile drive Monday. She's going to like the course, I think! She'll get to race with some of the folks I get to tangle with on a regular basis, as well as some of my team mates. Valygrl, enjoy it!

In SoCal working out at Velo Sports Center. Attended a Thursday session, Saturday open session, Sunday session and Monday Elite training session.
Today's session was the elite session reserved for P/1 racers, racers on National teams and very big swinging dicks. Fortunately, I qualify for the last part and attended. Prior to my session starting there was a team USA session and a women's team practicing team pursuit. On the track, they were clocking 17 second laps. They had one guy calling out splits and another offering encouragement with a megaphone. The first pursuit they hit the low 17s and the second one a few minutes later, the mid 17s.
17 second laps is 32.6 mph and assuming a 54/15 gearing 116 cadence. For me to do a 17 second lap is approximately 521 watts in my most aero position. Interestingly, Bradley Wiggins averaged 33.92 mph during his hour record. As I recall from the 2012 London Olympics, the men's pursuit team from Great Britain did 15.5 second laps on the 250 track or 36.1 mph for 4K.
I did 4 team pursuit efforts. Also, Momentum Coaching had their guys there as well who are sprinters. I did 4 efforts and the sprinters did four efforts as well. I suffered for 5 minutes each while the sprinters did four one lap chase the motor max efforts. I was talking with Travis (founder) after the session was over and he said sprinting is all about max efforts but not much riding. I have done the chase the motor efforts and the motor acts like a carrot to cause one to go as hard a possible chasing but never actually getting in the slip stream of the motor.
I will all be back tomorrow for another session.

Shoot, life is getting in the way of training again. Sunday was spent rebuilding a commode - what started as a short, easy fix turned into an all-day adventure including a couple of trips to the nearest hardware store 25 miles away and also involved dremelling through seized brass fixtures. I figured I needed the sleep more than a ride yesterday morning before work, now I have unexpected family stuff that must be done before work today. Bah.

My wife and I hooked up with @Cleave for a 7PM Roger's Session and we rode team pursuit in the pole lane. The intervals this evening were 2 X (2' 4' 2' 4' 2' 4' 2' 4') with the 2' at z2 and the 4' at tempo. We averaged 26.5 mph on our 4 minute efforts with each person taking one lap pulls. There was a lot of traffic on the track tonight so there was some yelling as well.
Great to see Cleave as always and said hi to Big M.
MEA and I also did the 12 to 2PM elite session and watched the women's national team again work out. Team pursuit was 16 second laps today. When the women finished they were on rollers until their next effort. They took a break and came back at 4pm for 3 hours of motor pacing and standing starts. Sarah Hammer was there and Andy Sparks was there as the coach.
