Sunrise is my favorite time on the bike. I'll be out there for tomorrow's, even though it'll be just above freezing. Too busy with grandpa stuff today to ride.

Also love sunrise on the bike. Cool and low traffic and quiet and generally calm winds. The only negative is the crazy suicidal bunnies on the bike paths.

They could have explosive vests - watch it!

I've been knocking out some miles recently, hooking up will old friends and teammates and taking advantage of weather windows to get back some endurance and speed before I start the Nats training program. We're looking at a big storm coming in tomorrow, just in time for the Thanksgiving drive over the mountains. Blech.

Snow means no riding for a bit up here but the offset is I get to strap boards to my feet and go do a bit of exploring.

Have a cup of coffee and enjoy the view before throwing on the thermals:

It's surprising how a little sun can warm things up. As long as you keep moving.

One of the place I XC ski is at the top of Mt. Rose. The Tahoe Rim Trail mountain bike ride is something I've done dozens of times over the years, the start point is the same place I start skiing. What's remarkable is how easy it is to lose the trail once it goes to single track; things look completely different so I often end up breaking trail in the general direction of where I want to end up:

After an 800' climb to 9600' the Lake becomes visible through the trees. In the summer you might have a dozen hikers and bikers here. In the winter you and a few animals are the only tracks and you have it to yourself.

Good ride interrupted by family drama. The plan was 2x20' at threshold. Got through the first one with no problem, began the second and the drama started via cell phone. I was so ticked I couldn't focus when I restarted the second interval, so I hung it up after five minutes. It took me until I got home to simmer down.

It was a gorgeous morning, though. Much of the first half of the ride was at 32 degrees and 95% humidity, but the sky was perfectly clear and it warmed up as soon as the sun got high enough. 1:31, TSS 105, IF .83, 1039 kj.

Tricky to estimate that TSS. Lots of ladder intervals there.

There will be pics, I assume?

This week was even taken into account. "Be honest. If the lights kicked your can, take Wednesday off too."

Absolutely, @Heathpack. Without pics, I wouldn't have a clue where to start.

Family drama free ride this morning! 2x20' threshold intervals, NPs were the same but APs were a watt off, dammit. I did these at 98% of FTP and they didn't feel that bad, might need to test since it's been a while.

So I thought about going to the gym this afternoon.

Past tense.

Figure a day off might be called for.

I've been doing sofa intervals fueled by turkey noodle soup for the past two days.

Yes, I was getting sick. No, I shouldn't have ridden my bike for 50 miles on Sunday.

Maybe I'll get back on the bike by Friday or Saturday, we'll be visiting relatives in Vegas and I'd like to ride Red Rock Canyon.

Registered for my next TT today, it's the Piru 20k on Sun Dec 6.

Sending virtual turkey noodle soup to the @Racer Ex household. Heal up & feel better.

Heal up @Heathpack and @Racer Ex!

Cold and miserable outside this morning. To hasten a warmup and lessen "outdoor exposure", I went to the gym and warmed up on a no-metrics spin bike. Felt decent! The people there who know me said "wow, have YOU lost weight!". I guess it's noticeable!

Afterwards I got on the cross bike, road wheels with power installed, and did two sets of over/unders (1 minute each X 5) with a *** in between. Still felt decent, even really good! I could feel I'm lighter.

Then, I swapped the wheels to the cross set and hit the dirt for another "race pace" interval - and blew up. I lasted about 18 minutes. My thighs were just screaming at me at the end. I had good power, just no reserves. So, tomorrow I'll eat even more carbs and protein!

Cross race on Sunday. It may be my last one this season. Work, the diet, and life have taken priority over cross this season. That's okay. Road is coming up, fast, and I'm looking forward to that. I might even, if I can juggle things around, go to SoCal and join Heathy on a TT or two.

Openers in a cold wind yesterday for a CX romp today. I'm not on form, I'm too old to chase those kids (for long), but what the hey. I haven't pinned on a number in a WHILE and I'm "hankering" to do that. It turns out the race I'm going today today (Surf City CX Bonny Dune) is the NCNCA Championship CX race. That means it'll be doubly hard, and there will probably be riders in my age group (55+ is the breakout). Ah. Lunch afterwards. That'll be good.

Bring on the road season.

Good luck @sarals, although I suppose by now the racing is actually done & over with. Hope it went well enough.

For me, first ride back today after a week of being sick. It was just nice to be on the bike. Legs felt limitless. Lungs, not so much.

25 miles and then coffee.

Went for a short ride when I got back from Alabama this afternoon. My legs felt...groggy? They did wake up about halfway through. TSS 48, IF .71, 576 kj. I wish I could move that kj decimal point one place to the right so it would at least begin to make up for the overeating I've done over the last few days.

Got out for about 2 hours today in the rain and cold (44 degrees @sarals)
40% Z3 and 32% Z4
TSS 136

What did I learn?

I took me about as long to clean the bike as I rode it
When cleaning your chain and cassette make sure you get to the dishwasher to unload it before she does...
