Have fun @sarals!

From my ride this am. Have I mentioned that the Christmas lights are currently on the Sparrow?! "Merry and bright."

What do y'all think? Am I viz enough?

I'm working today, but I hope the rest of y'all have a great Christmas Eve!

Three miles each way on the fixed gear to the pub and back for a few festive beers with some friends. TSS about minus 30. Have a good Christmas, all.

Two words:

Burning Man.

90 minutes of Zwift today. 2nd in the sprint, 9th on the KOM. Did some adaptation/low cadence drills. Eating real food again. And enjoying a Hendricks and Fever Tree.

I got outside on the Redline rain bike today for an hour. I just rebuilt it so everything was out of whack but I didn't care. Got the Stages working with the PC8. Laid down some short intervals with good power.

Snuck in a ride this morning. Huge group for around here, about 25-30 folks. The plan was to start at 7:30, but there was pea soup fog then so we waited about 20 minutes for the soup to thin. This ride reminded me why I'm still ambivalent about carbon wheels - coming up to blind corners and hitting the brakes to slow down, it took a couple of revolutions before the brakes wiped off the water and grabbed. Still a pretty nice ride. 1:30, TSS 95, IF .79, 904kj.

20* and chance of snow, and nothing in the forecast above freezing for the next week here. Yesterday was only freezing, but 20mph wind. Lots of trainer time in my recent past and future.

Long tempo intervals with bursts on the plan today, which I'm not that excited about. Tomorrow and Sunday I'll be riding Zwift, should be fun.

Family intervals this morning. Relatively high TSS. Or at least SS.

See what time we get home, but doubting I will be able to ride or Zwift. Try to do a big climbing loop tomorrow.

IBO, if you can get out in the winter, always grab that envelope. Crazy weather, NYC is supposed to be warmer than SoCal today.

2 hour Xmas day ride along the coast from La Costa to the top of Torrey Pines hill in La Jolla and did a repeat on Torrey for good measure. Amazing 20 mph headwind on the way back with whitecaps on the ocean.

Wait?! Is there something wrong with me that I rescheduled tomorrows ride to Sunday? On account of the wind forecast: 20-25 mph, gusts to 50 mph, windchills in the 25-35F range in the morning (the only time I can ride).

Makes the trainer sound amazing.

Thanks, was hesitant but felt the weather warranted it.
Back on schedule today. Passed up a group ride in 50 degree weather because it doesn't suit where I need to be in 112 days.

1:25 on the trainer

Same this side of the Atlantic. Wet, but unbelievably warm. A week or so ago it was 15C overnight. That would be a warm night in July.

Woke up for my trainer ride and it was pretty calm. So I went out on the road bike after all. Forty minutes in, the winds kicked up and it was gnarly, gusts in the 40-45 mph range. I got hit by a tumbleweed and wondered if it was going to take me out, get caught up in my rear wheel. Nope, it bounced right off me. Decided to keep it short, around 2 hours. The wind is not really too bad when you're not battling it for hours on end.

Got some threshold intervals in, supposed to be 20 minutes each but I picked a canyon that would be fairly sheltered from the wind and I ran out of road at 18 minutes. So I threw in an extra 9 minute threshold interval on the way home.

Nice ride despite the wind. And the best part of going short today is that I can go long tomorrow. TT bike.

2:40 mixed ride today. Climbing and some position/low cadence work, one TT interval chasing some guy who was hauling tail for 15 mins.

Begged off my original route. Got to the top of the mountain after an 50 minute climb and started to drop down to the coast; the temp kept dropping and the wind kicked up. Would have been riding through some deep dark canyons, was only going to get colder.

Headed back inland and did a couple of climbing loops.

Snuck in another ride today. It was a group ride, smaller than last time. I had two hours before I had to be at work, so I went in the paceline on the way out for an hour, then turned around and headed back alone. It turned out that the group went less than a mile further and then turned around. I got to ride solo almost eight miles into a 10-15 mph headwind and another ten plus miles with a crosswind. The group caught me about a mile before the end, right before I hit the final tailwind section. Still, December 26 and 81 degrees, it was good to be out. 2:03, TSS 150, IF .86, 1447 kj.

Rode out to the club ride this morning, 39 degrees and a building NE wind. 62 miles mostly on my own. It was really nice to get out.

Rode part of the way to my parents' house yesterday (Christmas). Wife dropped me off about 40 miles away. Unusually, I had favorable winds most of the way there but ended up not putting much effort into the ride. Regardless, it was pleasant enough and offset some of the Christmas goody intake.

After getting home late last night I had a hard time waking up this morning and was late getting to the meeting point for my club ride. Sort of chased because I didn't have a lot of energy today. About halfway through the loop I took a shortcut and figured I'd see them. Waited for a minute or so and didn't see them so I thought I was behind them. Rode back to the coffee shop and no one was there. A few minutes later the group pulled up.

When I started riding, the temp was in the mid-40s. The high while I was riding was mid-50s. I was wearing knickers, lightweight long tights, long sleeve base layer, long sleeve jersey, light vest, light long finger gloves, and helmet cover. I was comfortable and not over heated. At least I didn't need shoe covers.

70 degree weather so I went outside to do the workout. At the end of the first bit I see 4 team mates so it turned into an impromptu team ride.

2:15 climbing ride on the TT bike, around 35 miles and 2000ish ft. Was planning on a bit more, but got caught out in bad winds again today and we cut things short after my front wheel almost got taken out descending at 40 mph in a canyon. I was hit by a big gust from the side. Surprisingly, it did not freak me out, I just corrected and kept going. And then like a minute later, sat up to have a think and then decided it would be smart to call it a day. Beautiful weather other than the wind though- sunny and 45F.
Just really enjoying the bike. I like it on the flats, I like it descending. And I am even starting to kind of like going up hill on it.

I survived Vegas! And the drive both ways in horrendous traffic. the TSS on each of those drives was over 200, I swear. We sat on the offramp for Tropicana Boulevard Friday night for an hour and ten minutes. An hour and ten minutes to go ONE MILE. I could have crawled faster!

Anyway...

Saw shows, didn't eat too much, fell in love with some artwork, and rode an honest to heavens spin trainer in the hotel fitness room for an hour Saturday morning and an hour this morning. No metrics, but it was a nicer trainer than the ones in my gym. I expected to have to *** on a treadmill, so the trainer was a real surprise and a bonus! You know I've got my priorities straight when I go to Las Vegas and look forward to riding a spin trainer over everything else that place has to offer. The Rules rule....

I have to pop in here with all the crazy weather talk.

I got in three hours on the bike on Christmas day wearing a sport tank top since it was in the 70s. The next day at Christmas at the in-laws I was gifted a trainer and just in time. We are currently now in another ice storm. I did some power lifting of firewood from the side of the house to the front porch in case of power loss last night.
@Heathpack I love those lights on your bike!
