Southern Idaho CX Series Race #1 & 2
Cat 4 - Master 45 - Master 55 - Pro/1/2/3/4 Women ~55 Sat. & 45 Sun. total
On Saturday I followed a racer who just turned 45 this year for the the first 3 laps. When it looked that he was starting to tire some, I attacked just before a steep hill, and drilled it for 1/2 a lap. Once I had opened a good gap, I dialed it back some, and just tried to keep from getting passed by any more of the P/1/2 girls, as two of them had already chicked me.
1/6
~ 15th overall
Sunday saw a slightly smaller field and a new position on the bike. I got a Ridley X-Night for this year, and never really took the time to get a good fit. The Ridley's have a very different geometry from that of my Sette, and I just ad-hoc'ed and mis-mashed what seemed to work for me. I've said this before, I am a lazy overachiever. Anyway, after Saturdays race, I knew I was losing power and moved the saddle ~4mm up, and ~10mm forward.
The race was fun and informative. The new position brought the sought after power, but at the cost of control. I couldn't get "into" the bike, and had some problems with maintaining speed through the corners. By moving the saddle forward so much, I'm too cramped......... duh. I need to either move the levers down some ( don't want to do this) , or get a longer stem. ( also don't want to do this)
On about the second lap, (of six) the Woman's Pro winner passed me, and since I was feeling pretty good, I figured that I'd try and hang with her. It was going good until the end of lap 5, when I decided to ride the sand pit and got bogged down. By the time I cleared the sand, she had gapped me by ~10 seconds, and I could never close it back.
1/5
~ 10th overall
Here's a fun video of the course.

Keirin tournament at VSC. Decent turnout for a Friday night "off season". Everyone got three heats. So, on paper, not the best value ($20 for 3.7 miles of racing) but ridiculously fun. As always.

Nacler, if I didn't know any better, I'd say that cyclocross video looked like fun.

I've got 4 race reports, and a new video or two that I"ll post up in a couple days.
p.s. I'm envious of your profession; I miss the smell of burning kerosene in the morning.

At today's cross race I got my State Champ jersey for Track and a bag of $ for winning the Omnium. What began five years ago as a pizza party racing retirement fund is getting close to being able to have live music and craft beers.

Congrats! It's funny...you look at the field sizes when there's a jersey at stake and they are usually smaller. But then you look at who shows up and it becomes clear that a lot of people go "A" riders bringing their "A" game"...I'll stay home"

Way to go A'jet.
Racer Ex, A'jet, as a former hotshot collegiate decathlete, cannot help himself. He has to run and jump over things.

Haha. Thanks H, just Cat 4/5. I did pretty well in the two prelim heats (1st, and 2nd to eventual winner), but raced poorly in the final allowing myself to get pushed very high. I could feel the month-off away from the track -- that top end fast-twitch muscle is a totally different animal, and needs to be worked regularly! The good news: my upgrade to 4 finally went through, so I have choices for the upcoming omnium series.
