Friday Night Racing, typical omnium, great turnout. Coming off a down week, I felt a bit sluggish... or maybe just the case of an old man trying to keep up with some explosive teenagers. No matter, omniums are always fun. Miss-n-Out: 3rd. Scratch: 5th. Points: not sure, took one of four sprints.
One interesting thing about the Miss-n-Out races, the official was calling the last rider from the apron. I was one of several scorers who were sitting in the stands. There was definitely a difference of perspective between the two locations. The scorers had called 'out' on the guy who won your Miss-n-Out much earlier in the race. We had to defer to the official though. For later Miss-n-Out races, the official stopped calling the last rider as he realized he was getting it wrong from the apron.

Thank you, everyone. Much appreciated. Spoke to the doctor today before my appointment tomorrow. He was shocked that I crashed. We went over everything so that he can order all of the right films for tomorrow.
I was able to put the bike on the stand and give it a once over. The seat got tweaked a little, but it wasn't perfect anyway. The left shifter hit the grass, no damage other than a few small scratches, and I had to ****** the dirt out of it and relube. Shifting is fine. Both wheels were tweaked a little, but definitely an easy true job, when I have more strength. My shoulder took the brunt of the fall. I disconnected from the bike while airborne and it fell down. That's about the extent of it.

Good to hear, Shovel. Still sucks, but if this is "your crash", then it could have certainly been worse.

You should have seen the other guy. Seriously, I haven't been able to figure out who it is, and I'm sure as hell not going to ask on nyvelocity.
I landed about 3 feet in front of a tree. Now that would have left a mark.

Copious amounts of Karma headed your way...I don't need it, I give it to you!
I'm glad you didn't hit that tree - it would never have survived it.

Grade 3 shoulder separation confirmed. Three major tendons and ligaments torn clean through. I am having an MRI tonight to check an anomaly with my bicep. If that proves ok, no surgery for now, back on the trainer easy this week, on the road in 3 weeks give or take. Pain will drive the training load. NSG is still the season target. If it doesn't heal up well enough by itself by the end of the year, there is no penalty for waiting until the offseason for surgery.

Shovel, oh no....
Well, here's to hoping surgery can wait. We Old People don't bounce very well, do we?
Any news on the other rider?

Every now and then, I look around at the mayhem and question my commitment. Then the insanity returns, and I feel fine.

There has been a bit of controversy in the 55+/60+ ranks the past week regarding us old guys and our support of certain races. I wasn't really planning to do Devil's Punchbowl but I fell victim to the calls for support. Fell off the back pretty quickly as I have not been training on any sustained climbs of late and because I am currently fat (and distressed about it). Was kind of with a Santa Clarita guy (long story) and was on the last leg of the last of 3 laps when I started having massive cramps. Had to stop. Was going to try to finish but the legs weren't recovering. Barely made to my car after taking a shortcut.
I think I ingested plenty of Endurolytes. I brought the wrong shoes with me, my old DMTs, which are good for maybe an hour of racing before they start hurting my feet. By the 2nd lap, my toes were killing me. I think that might have been the source of my cramps. At least I hope so.

Having been invited here my Mr. Chasm54 I'll post that as a former Clyde, but still too close to it, and relatively new to biking (21 months) I raced my 5th race this past weekend.
Got pulled but not the first one pulled. In fact the last one that was pulled.
Keep getting beat by explosive folks that are way(!) younger than myself but to date I have never finished last
Oh well, on to the next one till I eventually get to get beat by others that will race in the 55+ races...
