Did I say the worst part of racing in the rain is your shoes filling up with water. Wrong!! The worst part is finding out your rear tubie is full of water.

Deciding whether to see if a return to high temp's and low humidity will dry it out, or if I should rip the tire off. Grumble... Next time, I'm putting the clinchers back on.

Still wet in Arizona. We just had a NWS warning for a dust storm, maybe 15' before a massive, drenching storm hit. TallWife had flatted on our recovery ride, and I don't carry 32mm Schrader tubes. So I hustled back, and the wind hit just as I was leaving in the car. I got to her just as the lighting started. Stoplights were going out, and streets flooding, as we made our way back home. Her experience with Hurricane Betsy as a child (evacuation by boat) has her terrified of major storms, so I was in the nick of time.

I am glad that I was in the picture. You should see some of the other vids but the intent is there. She has a iPhone 4s that takes lower res vids.

AzTR, glad that you're back on the horse.

Hermes, the video looked good to me. Speaking of videos, I need to ask...

sarals, if I got disappointed by every bad race that I've had just this season, well, you know. From my experience, you have to race on your bikes to really dial in the fit. Training doesn't put the same stresses on your body. Now you know what you have to do to get closer on your TT bike fit.

If my wife could change a tire, she would have to get a mani / pedi afterwords.

Mine has a "P.A." for things like that. You can guess who that is.

There is glass in a couple of the underpasses along the canal right now, and I'm guessing that did it. When they dry out from the thunderstorm, I'll drive to them and clean it up, I had a "garage flat" last week I suspect was from the same thing, as there was nothing in the tire, and glass can cause a puncture then fall off.

Thanks for the props on my 500 ride. I need a lot more time in the saddle in my new aero position for strength and adaptation. So October will reset the clock to start the process all over again.

Hermes, that video was terrific. You have great form, you always have. Focused, smooth - fast!

Shovel, you look like on Bradley Wiggins on your bike, and that's a huge compliment. Other than him, you have the smoothest pedal stroke I've ever seen - absolutely fluid. It was a joy to watch you in Aki's video!

Cleave, I told Ex right after the ITT that "you don't really know a bike until you race it". You and I are on the same page!

Valygrl - right on!!!

Azt

Gary - I expect great things in the next four races.

I'm home - I have internet, I'm not trying to type on my iPhone (which I is so frustrating)!

Your time was quite respectable, too; especially given that you've been doing more road lately. Don't you age up to a new category next year? What's the plan???

I rode part of that climb for openers on Saturday afternoon (after the racing) - Cantelow is the pits!! Good on you for the contest, though. I bailed on it, myself.

I age up and the current plan is top secret. But I will tell you when I see you.

Hi, managed to get to the last Tuesday twilight race of the year. Biggest field of the year because it was also billed as the Mark Whitehead Memorial Race. First place in the Masters 35+ race was worth $100. We had our best turnout of the year, 8 racers, but we were still hugely outnumbered by the "other" Long Beach club and the club that had the series leader. Ended up being the fastest race of the year. Also, Gibby Hatton showed up to make sure that the winner really earned the $100.

I really didn't do much as it was hard getting near and staying near the front (I still had to facilitate a big workshop at work the next day) but we managed to get two guys into the winning break. Unfortunately, the other LB club in the break and one of our guys fell off the break. Long story short, our sprinter held on for 3rd in the series after winning the field sprint for 7th. He got 5 X $20 gift certificates for a LBS and he gave each of us that helped him through most of the series one of the gift cards.

I've got a local crit on Monday and I'll probably go to a crit next week Sunday in Carlsbad to support a new race. After that, it's low key TTs -- at least low key for me -- through the end of the year.

stage 2 of GMSR was a rainfest. I think I was holding the brakes down during most of the first lap, just to clear the water off them.

I did manage to move up on GC from the sub-basement to the basement though.

Is my teammate Dirk killing everyone?

I raced yesterday. Chased Thurlow around a bit. Went to bridge up to the break and found I was only 90%, hot and muggy ain't great for the asthma thing. Imploded and called it a day.

Different field, but yes. I don't know how he did today. Carl Reglar has been waiting to do his "ride away from everyone on the mountain" thing in the 50+.

Dirk is a beast. Nice fellow, too. I see where Heidi did well at Esparto today.

basking ridge 45+

uphill/downhill crit. 6 turns. 1 mile. Finishing straight is 35+ coasting. Turn 1 is off camber with manholes, bricks and paint.

It poured pink blobs right before the race. I rode smart, it the top five the whole race. The unanticipated thing is that many of the top ranked riders in the race really couldn't corner, at least not on the wet roads.

The eventual winner-- Mengoni rider ranked 4th in 45+ nationally -- went with two the go. As I was riding solo it wasn't really the move for me to chase. I went with one to go when a rival attacked. I bridged he sat up. I dressed him down for giving up (I used a few BF censored words). He got on my wheel. Wouldn't pull through so I dumped him and rode in solo for second. 'Almost' caught the winner. 'Almost' in that when he looked back after raising his arms he realized he better take another couple of pedal strokes. Good race for me since it wasn't blah blah blah another field sprint win for second or third.
