Hey GB, Were you running around Winchester, Va. last week. I was setting behind a car at a light with a Miyata that looks exactly like that. Nice ride..
|
That is very cool..I did'nt notice what car it was at the time.(Typical cyclist-care more about the bike than the car). You just don't see Miyata fixies everyday so that's why I remembered it. I work in Winchester. I was out on a lunch break checking the thrift stores for bikes to refurbish. It is a pretty cool town. Somewhat cyclist friendly...Next time I'll beep and wave and act like a fool...

It's, should I say "interesting". It's more like paying to see big playground toys shaped like dinosaurs. I would just appreciate what you can see from the road..
|
Yes, the dino's are old and crumbly and maybe not what a modern kid would enjoy (most kids today would probably die for nintendo or a game for their ipod- stuff I find terribly boring). Still, Dinosaur World is endearing. It's silly large-scale outdoor art of the sort I grew up with. I love it and was back for my second time. In the cheesy gift store you'll see postcards of the area when it was young. No other buildings or fences around. You'd come over the hill and see T-rex attacking bronto right at the edge of the farms! Great stuff. -GB b.1964 :D

When I pulled up all I saw was the shark, wasn't until I pulled away that I saw the others off in the woods. I shouldn't have been so cautious and ponied up my tourist dollars. The kids were begging. I'll be sure to stop in next time I'm heading out there. On postcards, for a while i was collecting old Baltimore postcards circa 1900-1960, pennies on e-bay. Images of the ice skating lake in Druid Hill, things like that. I framed them and hung them in my house. Oh yeah, this is a bike forum-0 miles this weekend since I've been out of commission. Maybe I can get out for an LSD ride tomorrow. |
good evening to all, I have 2 good things to report
1/the knobbies are going back on the MTB permanantlly, ready to ride when anyone else is. this is because...are you ready...........we went christmas shopping today for the wife, cause performance has 20% off all bikes even the ones on sale! we looked at the fuji newest ($850 before discount) but she didn't like the ride, we tried a 47cm fuji finest ($950)and the first thing she said after the road test was how much smoother this bike was (due to cf fork?). So after the discount it was $750 plus she get $75 in reward dollars, put it on layaway and will have by Christmas. she's excited as am I! Decent shifters,105 derailuer, triple, I still think its light than the 21lbs fuji says. This will be a big change from the 33lb MTB she's been riding. Maybe I can convince her to join us on a Dec 26 ride?? After this I sure hope theres a box under the tree that says GARMIN 305 or 705. http://www.tomsprobike.com/products/...Finest-2.0.gif |
Today's commute was the first I'd been on the bike since last sat. I needed it.
I was loosely thinking of riding a dry run of the On again/Off again ride this monday, but now I'm thinking that next monday (12/8) would be better. Harry what's your sched. look like? You up for a monday (12/1) ride? Maybe 45-65 miler? -GB |
Nice bike. We can certainly use more girl power for future rides.

GB- I'll have to look at what I have. I know I have work for Monday but maybe I can bang something out tomorrow to clear some room on Monday. What time you thinking? I had high hopes for this weekend, seriously getting a flu shot next year, either that or supplements to boost my immune system. Josh-Good deal-I put the knobbies back on as well, though they are ten year old tires, probably wouldn't be a bad idea to replace them. Also need to adjust the front derailleur, can't get in the big ring though I think the big ring is bent. Also should replace the front wheel from a major crash a few years back. Maybe we can do the mt.biking Saturday morning, if you're free. I have to get back to help with my son's birthday but a few hours is good. I'm close to getting the 705 for the new year, my Vista is useless for online data, loading maps, etc. |

I have a front wheel you can have, for say FREE, is that a fair price?, I also have a crankset off a trek navigator if it'll work. 48/38/28 gears. same price as the wheel.
Sat might work,we still thinking aboout 8am? Mighty kind of you to offer up that front wheel, and I'll take you up on it. I've been thinking of going to disk brakes with this rig so may eventually buy one that is disk ready. I'll ride as is and show you on Saturday. I think my crank is still good, just a slightly bent big ring. Is Performance having a huge sale on everything, or just bikes? GB-Looking at my jobs and I may be able to swing Monday. Just need to shake this flu. |

Good looking bike Josh, I'm sure she'll love it. |
Added another 103 miles to this year's total by doing this ride, today:
SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 29, 2008 "PILGRIMAGE TO PINEY POINT," starting from T. C. Martin Elementary School, Bryantown, Maryland. MEETING TIME 8:00 a.m. We'll head south, deep into St. Mary's County, with a tour stop at the Piney Point Lighthouse (oldest lighthouse on the Potomac River) and Museum (see http://www.lighthousefriends.com/light.asp?ID=437 and http://www.cheslights.org/heritage/pineypoint.htm. Riding in St. Mary's County is pleasant if not dramatic, and we'll pass several Amish farms during the course of the ride. A few hills but relatively flat terrain. Lunch at Evans Seafood Restaurant on St. George Island. 103 miles, with an 89-mile short option. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...PP20081129.png PINEY POINT LIGHTHOUSE http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...1129081139.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...1129081141.jpg PIER http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...129081141a.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...1129081142.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...1129081146.jpg BIKES OUTSIDE OF EVANS SEAFOOD RESTAURANT http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...1129081326.jpg GETTING READY TO LEAVE FROM LUNCH http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...1129081329.jpg ED AND MARY'S DEATH TANDEM - BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAA! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...1129081406.jpg It was a nice ride--fairly flat (only about 3,200ft of climbing), great company, good food and relatively quiet roads. Hey Noracer, I should be in those pics. Bennett asked if I wanted to do the ride but I couldn't, looks like he didn't make it either.
Beautiful countryside down there. |

Beautiful countryside down there. No, Bennett didn't show up--at least not with the main group. Besides the folks in the lunch picture, others who didn't join us were Rudy, Keith, and Lothar. At lunch was Crista & Chuck (lead tandem), Ed and Mary (2nd tandem), Lane, Maile, Chris, and Bill. |

A short video: http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...13872392794890 [noracer is the guy with the tail light, Greater Brown is the one with the fixie, I'm the one who in his moment of glory on pulling ahead took a wrong turn at the bottom of the hill. Heavy sigh. at least I had fun.] I thought mounting the cam on the helmet would make the video more stable but for mister has to look around and check his mirrors it really isn't working well. Regarding the video, I had the same problem when mounted on my helmet and even a handlebar mount is not that great, but much better than on the helmet. I found mounted next to the headstock of the bike to be the most stabile area, but you'll get lots of road noise transmitted through the frame and into the microphone of the vidcam. |

Or would it be better to say you look better in pink? :innocent: Dang too many ways to get myself into trouble trying to respond to that. Seriously I didn't notice, possibly my only critic is you look like a Mt biker but nothing wrong with that. |
