this is the rainjacket I got on sale for $15, had a performace reward certificate for $20 so it cost me nada. had mesh openings under arms and on sides but no very breathable, I guess waterproof/windproof and breathable don't mix.

I met the wife at the Barn as she had to get the horse's feet done today. I really need to ride on collage avenue at some point, the hills from frederick rd-collage avenue-beechwood look real steep (to me), maybe one day after work.

Here's Collage Ave https://veloroutes.org/bikemaps/?route=29980 350 feet 2.2 miles
Frederick Rd https://veloroutes.org/bikemaps/?route=29982 440 feet 2.3 miles
Illchester https://veloroutes.org/bikemaps/?route=29983 440 feet 1 mile
any other good climbs in the area?

I swear this is my last post today.

LOL! Too late! New month starts tomorrow.

I'll ride very easy to and from work, so that I don't blow myself out, ruining the two rest days I just had before the back-to-back centuries this weekend with the SPP (OC9 - Stevensville to Ocean City on Saturday ~ 113 miles; Ocean City to Stevensville on Sunday ~ 114 miles).

Also, I've switched out the Tufo tires. I put rim strips on my AmClassic CR-420s, inner tubes, and Michelin Pro 2 Race tires (all of which I had laying around) so I won't have to carry spare tires to Ocean City--only spare tubes. I hope I don't regret the decision.

NR how many mile you get out of tires normally? Both mine seem to have flat centers @ 2600 miles, of course the back is worse of the two.

Yeah, those 50 foot peaks may start to take a toll on me over 113 miles.

Just a little over 100 miles each day, piece of cake for you.

Got dropped again by my fast Friday group, at least I kept them in sight for a bit longer. I have no excuses but I have been running and swimming a lot lately, tired all the time. I will do it again and again until I can keep up.

I'll be out on the eastern shore tomorrow, weather permitting. My son is whining about riding so I may just go by myself and do that Six Pillars Century or a RFF training ride out of Easton.

And, here's the map for Sunday's route back to Stevensville, MD:

https://bimactive.com/ba/ui/route_det...s&m2=findroute

The cuesheet they distributed has nearly 4 miles of error for Sunday. Something is amiss.

All other weekend riders, have fun! And, be safe.

I used that coat for many years. Sweat like a pig in it but great at keeping the rain off. I leave it work in case I forget my other one.

Enjoy your ride. I was to go camping this weekend but it's on hold due to "some 4 letter word"

I was just looked at the same one about 30 minutes ago when I was at the store. Ended up not buying one, but did pickup some GU Gels which a box of 24 were 20% off.

Speaking on rain jackets, anyone going to be down in Suitland MD tomorrow? Going to ride in the race hopefully (on waiting list) but due to the rain I figure a bunch wont show. First race in the rain so its going to be interesting

Video summary of this weekend's ride to OCMD from Stevensville:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fBzCYRm9Qo8

https://bimactive.com/ba/journal/post/10783/22625 OC9 Day 1 (Saturday) - Avg Speed = 18.5 mph for 113 miles
https://bimactive.com/ba/journal/post/10783/22626 OC9 Day 2 (Sunday) - Avg Speed = 17.4 mph for 115 miles

We could summarize Sunday as: RAIN! Oh well.

Good job, especially yesterdays MPH. Did you wear the performance raincoat? If so, you must have sweated like a pig...not that you a pig

I didn't ride at all this wknd. Clean out my gear closet(preparing for a SW trip end of the month) and made a batch of American Pale Ale. Did ride this morning to work, squish squish squish....all my clothes drying in the pump room.

GB: hows that super duper expensive rain coat, do you sweat in it? Todays weather would have been a great test. I didn't get rain wet but was rather sweaty even with my pit zips wide open. Plus rain came in through the pit zips.

Yes, I did wear my Performance raincoat--much of the time wide open in the front unless it was really pouring hard. Also, I had lots of wool to keep me warm.

Our average speed COULD have been higher, but our leader, Clint, wanted us to all stay together all of the time.

Here's a video summary of Saturday's ride:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fBzCYRm9Qo8

Unfortunately (but, fortunately for James due to the rain), we didn't have the video camera on Sunday. James met his wife and daughter in OCMD and drove home Sunday.

I went all weekend, 220+ odd miles, with no incidents and this morning up by Franklin Square Hospital I get a double flat by running through a pothole. A tractor trailer found it necessary to drive down Franklin Square Blvd and I was trying to stay away from it in a narrow area of the road. I didn't see the pothole. Now I have a dent in the braking surface of my front American Classic CR-420 wheel.

Luckily I had two spare tubes with me.

This wouldn't have happened if I would have switched the tires back over to Tufo last night instead of running regular clinchers tires and tubes. I was tired and felt lazy. I'm still feeling tired and lazy, so they'll probably stay on at least one more day.

650B question:
Bob or any other 650b aficionados; If a bike has cantis and 27" wheels then it most likely cannot be turned into a 650B bike. I think the frame can handle the tire width but with canti bosses I think the brakes would never reach. Am I correct in this thought.

Somewhere I got a burst of energy and pulled the AmClass CR-420s and tires.

I tore down the rear hub of my carbon Neuvation 50 to see if I could get it working again. Originally, I thought that I had bent the axle, but that wasn't the problem. Long story short, after nearly giving up on it, I was able to determine how to get it back to high function and no "spare" parts sitting on the bench afterwards. I rode it into work this morning. It rolled very well.

So, now I have two sets of wheels that have fronts with dented brake surfaces--my AmClass CR-420 and my Topolino wheel.

Does anyone know if this type of damage can be fixed by a wheelbuilder without replacing the hoops?

Yup. Your cantis won't reach. You can sometimes make a conversion from 27" to 700c. (the difference is about 8mm), but 650B is at least 40mm smaller than 27" The only workable solution is long reach side/center pulls.

Sheldon's got good general info on conversions: https://www.sheldonbrown.com/650b.html

BTW I love my 650B's but they are a only good for high performance, high volume tires. IMO
But that sounds like what you're looking for.

Darn, I had an old Raleigh Alyeska lined up in good shape. It has Reynolds 555 steel. Oh well back to the drawing board.
A side note: I was following 2 ebay auctions of my model Miyata 1000(same year/size/comps). One went for $800 and the other over $1K!!!! Those old bikes still hold their value.

Hmm weather = horriable, cant we get a solid couple days of sunny/clear condition. I am all for riding in the rain but I only like cleaning and relubing the bike some many bikes in a row. I think I need to get another bike just for the rain, one that does not cost $$$$ and I dont have to clean every single time.

I don't imagine a dented rim can be fixed. I would think with the miles you do that going through some wheels now and then would be acceptable, maybe use some heavy 32 spoke cheapies for your commute. I have my Bontrager Race Lite in at Joes for warranty replacement. I'm thinking of getting a spare rear wheel since I have so much trouble.

You can easily pull off the cantis and put some long reach side/center pulls on your Raleigh. Find a pair of DiaCompe 750's from an old frame or new. Put on some Kool Stop pads and a Rat Fink sticker on the frame and you'd be kickin' it old skool style.

BTW I wear my Showers Pass jacket quite often. They have some really expensive light weight models, but the century jacket is about $110. I do sweat in it when it's warmer out, but it its certainly the best ventilated jacket I've ever owned.
