I'm not sure if Duclaw has outdoor seating, I remember seeing it both ways, so it may depend on the season or maybe they got in trouble with ordinances.

Today turned out to be a very nice day despite the forecast Weather.com had up last evening. A little headwind during my race, but still better then rain or cold.

My husband Jim will be there. Tall, skinny guy - looks like a cyclist - you should be able to spot him easy.
Have fun Harry - hope you raised a lot of $$$.

Got 16th out of 39 in Cat 5 race. Could have done better, but I miss timed my 2 attacks off the front (one to try and create a break away, 2nd to bridge the gap as 2 guys got away a couple laps later. Cant complain to much, good race, no one got hurt (a tleast in mine, Cat 5 race #2 someone went down on the backside, but walked away).

I was in the Forte Richie Crit in upper MD, I think he was doing another one.

Ellen,
Yes we did indeed, exceeded our goal of $2400 by about $600.00 to bring us to about 3k. That's a lot of meals for a lot of desperate people. Now we're totally pumped to do the ride next Saturday. I talked to Jim quite a bit, showed him my giant movie screen, which I think he took a picture of. Great guy, look forward to riding with he and you in the future.
I wanted to get a closer look at Jim's cruiser, so cool, but I kept getting pulled this way and that, meeting and greeting.
Barry, Bob and Theresa(?) showed up and from the looks of it had a great time, in fact closed the place. Barry-hope you had a safe ride home, I know your hip was bothering you. Bob, I could hear that old e-bay car starting up as I began my "monumental" cleaning task, up til 3:30.

I got home fine (thanks for asking,) riding is not really an issue with my hip as I can at least pedal with one leg, however walking with just one leg is a bit problematic.

I got notice from the Urbanite that my anti-cycling article is still on track. And yes you heard right but maybe, just maybe I didn't do such a good job getting the anti-cycling point across.

Interesting. Unfortunately, I think this is what it will take for cyclists to be taken seriously, somebody important (not that we aren't) getting hurt.

So true.

Too bad no one could get close enough to Bush to push him and his bike off the road, but then again, I believe he's more of the MTB type anyway.

My understanding of Bush is that he was runner developed a bad knee (can relate) and took up road cycling. The Secrete Service could not secure 60 miles of road so he took up mt biking.

Bush did help increases funding for bike/ped projects in the SAFETEA-LU legislation.

I'm psyched too. Even though I won't be able to make the trip out there with you.

Are you planning on riding back on Monday? It'd be nice to have a ride buddy.

Took a long (150 mile) ride yesterday on the new Coho.
Hampden-Annapolis-Chesapeake Beach-Hampden. Ride was Sa-wheet!
I'll post a ride report and a bike review soon (either here or in LD thread).

NR, would you mind posting the Cliff's Notes version of the July 4th plans?

My leave request (for 2 July and 6 July) finally got approved, and my agony of luggage indecision was largely put to an end by a sale price on Ortlieb rear panniers (and a hefty dividend from buying too much crap *last* year ) at REI (still semi-agonizing over the fronts, though.)

I want to go *somewhere* with water, and if it's OC, I guess I'd better make my mind up soon, or I won't find a place to stay!

Nice ride!

...and, absolutely! I'll be leaving Monday morning. I've already given notice at work. Looking forward to a nice ride home with company.

Here's the route I plan to ride for 2009:

https://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Essex-to-OCMD-2009

It's closer to my 2007 route avoiding Delaware Rt896--not going to try that route again in case they haven't finished construction. Almost got killed last year.

Jim had a nice time - enjoyed meeting my BFF (hehe - Bike Forum Friends). He'll come by again on the cruiser - its a cool one. He was told this Fridays ride is a fixie ride. He was TOTALLY impressed with your video room - he did not show me a pic though!
It feels good to make that kind of money for thesebenefit rides - doesn't it?
Have fun. Maybe we'll join the team next year!

I haven't heard about the Friday ride yet. It would probably not be advisable for me to try to keep up with those cats the day before my charity century. I think combined weight on the tandem, including the tandem will be in the neighborhood of 350-375 lbs. Did 36 miles in the Greenspring with a couple of triathletes from Meadowbrook last night. They showed me some new roads.
Yesterday at noon while swimming at Meadowbrook they were filming a commercial with Phelps. So he's standing right at the end of my lane, the fastest swimmer in the world and perhaps one of the slowest.

Any of you guys know of a Baltimore to DC route that swings west a bit? Not the route that we took on the monument ride, though that link would be helpful too. I have a friend in Arlington who's doing a tour over Memorial Day weekend. His ride back on Monday goes from Balt to Arlington.

Hey folks: Glad to see y'all are riding a lot. Better than me. I have only been bike commuting.

Harry: Sorry I missed the benefit but I had a horde of family over on Sunday and had to make the home and grounds presentable.

NR: Want to borrow my map again for your ride I can't do the ride.

GB: nice ride on your newest steed. You're getting mighty close to 300K. Brevet series!! Paris-Brest-Paris?? I've been reading about this ride recently............just thinking
You should ride your new bike in Howard county.
Why you ask?? The Coho in Hoco

Bike touring: We talked about this earlier in the year. I can't do any this month but will have some time in mid June for a 3 day(maybe 4) tour if folks are still interested. We talked biking S. MD to ferry etc. I checked on ferries, pricey but doable. They started running in May. The problem is the trip (using the ferry to eastern shore) would be really long saddle days for a 3 day tour. Think about it.

Me: I am leaving tomorrow for a 10 day trip to S. Utah with the wife for camping and hiking. Hope to do some slot canyons as well. Don't know if biking will happen. I will miss bike to work day again this year. 2 years in a row
Be safe , ride hard

Utah-sweet. I have the Adventure Cycling maps for the Utah Cliffs route which I hope to do some day, half road, half dirt. I'm jealous, though I'll be taking quite a bit of time off this summer for outdoors adventure-mostly east I suppose. Enjoy those stars.

Bike tour-I'm still game. I'm trying to schedule my summer now, taking into consideration all my kids camps plus a week at the NJ shore, probably Maine in August.

This Friday group wants to do a fixie ride 6am Friday. Probably not the best thing I could do before a 140 mile weekend on a 375 lb combined weight rig, but I will.

This is sort of a jumble of several rides but I think it has what you are looking for. Let me know if you are going to use and if your freind can find the MacArthur path off the CCT (pain in the butt to describe.)

https://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/09-March-15

One of these days I want to make this into a loop for the Monument to Monument ride.

Just a warning to y'all--I was assaulted today on the way home from the train station by a group of 8 or so kids on bikes who tried to steal my wallet and my Brompton. I live in Bolton Hill and had just made the left onto Lanvale from Mt. Royal when they rode up beside me and one of them pushed me into a parked car. I booked it up the hill and tried to escape by bike--I actually outran all of them on my folder (setting a new personal best for making it up that hill, I'm sure). I turned onto Park, the street I live on, and realized that I had nowhere to go without leading them directly to my apartment, which I didn't really want to do. They surrounded me and tried to pry my bike away while throwing punches and a couple of others came up behind and tried to get my wallet. I was fortunate enough to hang on to both, but soon realized that I didn't really have any way to get away and the odds were definitely against me in a sustained 8-1 standoff. Luckily, a couple of pedestrians came around the corner--I yelled for help and told them to call the police. I ran over to the sidewalk where the pedestrians were standing and the kids circled around us and threatened us until they heard the police starting to come, including a helicopter overhead. They rode off and got away. A police cruiser caught up to me as I was running back to my apartment and I gave him the story. He said they tracked them to the area around UB and the UB cops almost caught them before they got away. The cop felt terrible about it, but said that they probably weren't going to get caught and there was really nothing else that they could do.

I realize how fortunate I was to escape with nothing more than some scrapes and bruises. I was scared to death while it was happening and my heart is still racing. I'm terrified about my commute tomorrow--they're still out there and they know what time I get home and roughly where I live. I don't know if maybe I would be safer walking home from the train station? I wouldn't have a bike for them to steal, but I'd still have a wallet and I would be even more vulnerable on foot. I'm scared to even take the dog out on my own.

I've heard about this happening in other parts of the city--Barry-I think you've mentioned it before--but I'm really surprised that this happened in broad daylight right in the middle of Bolton Hill...
