The Stork has arrived!!
Brand New Maryland Bicycle Baby!!!!
I picked it up today after work!
This rig is smokin'
I took it for a short spin down the block and back. I'm going to break it in tomorow on that Team In Training ride! I can't wait.

I'm back in Essex. I'll write a longer ride report later. Right now, all I want is a hot cup of soup, soak under a hot shower, and a nap. I'm definitely sick. Throat is scratchy and burning and my upper chest feels like it's filled with cotton, and I feel like I need to cough up a fur ball.
My final mileage total is 92.6 miles.
L8ter.

Well ya did good anyhow.
After I get the kids to bed later tonight I will write up a full report with pictures.
Legs are a bit sore, but I am still tempted to do a short easy roller spin tonight just so they don't get too tight.

I’m kicking myself now for not joining you guys. I don’t know what it is about this winter but I have been having off and on temperature issues that I did not experience last year. Sometimes I fine over a wide temperature range and other times I am not.
NoRacer I hope you feel better.

My hat is off to you dedicated commuters. A very long time ago, I lived in England for 4 years and did not own a car, and cycled everywhere. But I only lived about three miles from work, and I didn't have to look nice when I got there! I did enjoy it, though. Right now I live much too far from where I work (41 miles one-way, via interstate roads), but I'll probably be moving in May, so I'm keeping the bike commute possibility in mind as I'm starting to think about where I should go.

Coughing has subsided for the most part, but if I were to get out on the bike in the cold air, I'm sure I'd resurrect it.
I'm hoping I'll be ready to ride by the weekend.

Hi locals. Saw a picture today on Sunspot of a woman walking her dog around Lake Montebello. Is the area open for riding yet? They closed it for a few years back for work - whats up with that area?
Thanks

Here is a little hour-and-a-half training ride I did yesterday after work. This route works pretty well early and late season when one is forced by short days to ride during rush hour. Most of the route goes against the prevailing traffic (excepting heading out on Providence Road but once over the beltway, traffic is light).
This loop has several good climbs with Notchcliff (aptly named) being the biggie.

For those interested in a century (or two) this weekend, the DC Randonneurs are putting on the following rides (Saturday looks like a sufferfest--yeah!):
SATURDAY, MARCH 3, 2007
Lothar Hennighausen is leading "LES LAMENTATIONS DE LOTHAIRE" (aka
"Lothar's Lament" for those not PBP-bound), starting from Monocacy
Middle School, Frederick, Maryland. MEETING TIME 7:30 a.m. This is a
new ride and it's going to be a doozie. There are 7 CODE RED climbs,
so get ready for the big hurt. I don't want to destroy the element of
surprise so I won't tell you more than that. Lunch at Nan & Pap's in
the village of South Mountain. 100 VERY SCENIC miles, with a metric
option and an optional 7-mile shortcut near the end of the ride. Since
Lothar's going to lead the ride, he is COMMITTED to riding every inch!
Directions to the ride start:
MONOCACY MIDDLE SCHOOL, FREDERICK, MARYLAND, 8009 Opossumtown Pike,
Frederick MD 21702 From D.C. Beltway, take I-270 north 31 miles to
Frederick. Continue north on US15 3.7 miles. Take Motter Ave exit
(sign for Frederick Community College). Turn RIGHT at the traffic
light onto Opossumtown Pike. In about 1.5 mi. turn RIGHT into Monocacy
Middle School parking lot (just after Frederick Community College on the
left).
******************************************
SUNDAY, MARCH 4, 2007
"THE SANDGATES CENTURY," starting from D.C. Martin Elementary School,
Bryantown, Maryland. MEETING TIME 7:30 a.m. Here's a kinder gentler
ride offered as an antidote to Saturday's torture-fest. Highlights on
this southern Maryland ride, mostly in St. Mary's County, include many
Amish farms and an Amish meeting house, Greenwell State Park, an
optional side trip to the Sotterley Mansion (see
https://www.sotterley.com/), and lunch at the Seabreeze Restaurant in
Sandgates, where if we're lucky we might get a glimpse of Shrimpy the
Kelp Gull! See
https://www.livejournal.com/community...tml?mode=reply
and
https://www.wamu.org/programs/mc/feat...th_shrimpy.php
. 102 miles, with plenty of shortcuts.
Directions to the ride start:
T. C. MARTIN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, 6315 Olivers Shop Rd, Bryantown,
Maryland
From DC Beltway, go south on MD5 Branch Avenue, toward Waldorf (Exit
7A). In 12.2 miles turn left on MD5 (TL) (just after entering Charles
County) (sign to Lexington Park/Leonardtown). In 3.2 miles turn left
on Leonardtown Rd to remain on MD5 (TL) (Bus. 5 goes R). In 4.9 miles
turn right onto Olivers Shop Rd MD232 (blinking TL). In 1.1 mile turn right
into school parking lot.
