@poena and gmsdc: welcome gmsdc I rode w/ as couple of bents this wknd.
wknd riding: I was helping a friend lead a ride for the Patapsco Heritage trail group through the river valley on Saturday. Only 25 miles but a very enjoyable group to ride with. We got a little history as we rode through the valley. I rode sweep(not because I couldn't keep up this time) and often redirected lost cyclist. Last 2 days ofcommuting was a choice of cold rain or warm sweat. Yesterday I choose cold rain and felt ok. Got a little wet but not bad. Today I choose warm sweat and glad I did. Got dumped on as I neared work. B2WD: I signed up for the Balto City rally. I have no idea of how I will actually get to work. I'm thinking of calling it B2WD w/out work. I will either take off that day, ride home after the festivities and brew a beer;-), bike to work and get there around 10 or 11, take my folder bike to the train or take my main ride over to BWI for the express bus to Greenbelt. Going to B2W festivities is such a hssle but I am bound and determine this year. Anyone else going downtown. Seems most of you are going to Towson. OLC is seeking a twitter expert to help w/ tour de port. I wonder if we know of anyone, hmmmm. OLC is having a Social meet and greet thingy @ Fells point this Thursday. I hope to go, anyone else?? @GB: Bribery to increase bikers. If your turnout is like the last ride you will go broke by offering a free beer. Hope to make it. |

I will be issuing another action alert targeting WJZ to issue a correction on their misleading statements (if not false.) Is Bike jam this weeek? |

http://www.bikejam.org/ I will not race this year--raced last year. I still haven't broken my cherry racing the cross bike in a road race or crit. Not sure if I'll get there--sort of self-conscious about it. |
I will probably do a switcheroo this year for B2WD. I signed up for Towson, but now Teresa is hoping to ride to the downtown location.
So, I'm guessing I'll cheat on my Towson bike commute clan and sneak down to War Memorial Plaza this year. Might head down to Pat. Park to watch the muscle boys crash into one another at Bike Jam. Never been before. |
Hey NR, you gonna come out to the Kelly Cup and cheer us on? We may also need some host housing if anyone is game.

I thought about this. (momentarily) This guy's doing it:

Hey all. So the RFF was great this year. Battles headwinds for 100 miles. At times it was very difficult to keep the bike going straight form the cross winds. I pulled a couple people for the last 50, was glad to do the meager hills going into Baltimore on Sunday, some were actually dreading them. After the wind monotonous wind on Sunday...
Anyway, a friend of mine wants to bike to Hopkins Hospital on Friday and I said I would ride with her. I plan on taking the route through Loyola, down the Greenway to Guilford to Monument, hang a left east and head to Wolfe. Any suggestions or warnings? |

Where are the BTW festivities downtown? She's riding in on Friday, is that BTW day or is it Thursday?
How do you like this route? http://www.mapmyride.com/route/us/md...27420390292838 Bob-I made a lot of new friends this year as I was not on my tandem with a kid, but not sure I met Elizabeth. Was she on a team? Team Atomic perhaps? |

Then take Gay east to JHH afterwards. |
Not sure I saw Elizabeth. I'll be at City Hall on Friday with my friend Rita who works at Hopkins. Not sure what time yet. I'll just stick with my route down Guilford. For her return journey I'll probably send her back to University Pkwy then Roland as the Greenway is a one way and she doesn't do a whole lot of street riding.

Does anybody know if any of the main streets going north from downtown have bike lanes or shared lanes? I've ridden Calvert and I think that may be scary for her at rush hour. I want her to continue commuting and not get killed or turned off. Like say from City Hall up to University Pkwy. Otherwise, since she is new at this, I would send her over to Falls and Roland Ave.

Falls and Roland are nice sans the hill. I often use Fallsway (it even has a green bike lane for a bit) to Calvert. If you are riding with her Fallsway to Gullford (with the cut thru a parking loit) is low traffic but I would not recommend that to a woman riding alone.

@ harry Guilford is considered the road to commute into downtown in the AM. Don't know if there are bike lanes or not.
I'm going on Thursday. Rachel(OLC) asked me to spread the word. So I have spammed BBC, BF, Bikewash, MORE. Who did I miss? Maybe Bob can post something on North Balt Bike Brigade. I'm not certain how to post there, only read the stuff. Anyway to get the info to Velocipede??? Hope to see you Thursday Harry, I might be coming from Towson so perhaps we can ride down together. |

I'm trying to spread the word on Bike To Work Day. Kind of silly, every day should be bike to work day. |

Hello, MD peeps. I haven't been posting much, just thought I'd pop in for a bit while waiting for a phone conference to start.
Had a bit of a relapse with my boo-boo hamstring, but not as bad as last time, so I've been getting back on the bike more. I had a lovely ride Saturday to Annapolis. It was supposed to my "birthday years-in-miles ride" :) but I messed up the planning calculations somehow; I bought lunch at the market in Annapolis and was going to head to Thomas Point Park to eat it, but I was already very close to 25 miles. ?? (I was shooting for *exactly* 48 for the round trip! :D) So I stopped outside of Quiet Waters Park to eat; a bit of a detour on the way home, and I ended up with 49.8. Oh, well, close enough! A little breezy but gorgeous weather; I stopped for a while to check out the Maryland World War II Memorial on Route 450, which I've always just blown past on my way down (or back up) the hill. I'm hemming and hawing about what to do Thursday and Friday -- I'd very much like to go to the happy hour on Thursday, but due to late meetings tomorrow, I would have to drive to work, or I'll never get to Kooper's in time to be "happy." ;) That's what I'll probably end up doing; if so, I'll be on the lookout for Charlie and whoever else is going! Friday . . . we've always done our own "Bike To Work" day thing here at the Death Star, with just us. We typically meet at Arundel Mills Mall and ride in together, do a few laps around the main complex. This year, we've been asked to sign up as participants on the Baltimore Metropolitan Council site, I guess so we can be officially counted, and although we're a "satellite" spot (not an official rally point) I hear someone's bringing us maps and T-shirts and whatnot, which is kind of cool. I do appreciate the "show the flag" value of BTW day, but it's a little aggravating in that I end up getting to work about an hour later than I normally would. Also, I typically don't ride in on Fridays, and that's been especially the case this summer, because I play softball in Columbia after work on Fridays, and normally just change here at work and head over to the fields with all my paraphernalia. On the other hand . . . my games this Friday are late (first one isn't until 8:15), so I should have plenty of time to get home, get my junk, and get back to Columbia. And we're having a big ceremony at work Friday; parking, which is always a mess here, is going to be an even bigger hairball than normal. In that regard, it would be a *most excellent* day for two skinny wheels! |
@maxine Death Star???
So... about that host housing for a pro team? anyone? :D |
Max glad you can make it. Look forward to seeing you.
GB thanks for posting that harry: 5:00 to 5:30 works for me. I will be at work only in the AM then Towson after that. I'll PM my numbers. Trek: Sorry but can't help you out |
